Dole Hosts Robotics Team Luau

Dole Plantation will host a benefit luau from 6 to 9 p.m. May 15 for Waialua High’s renowned robotics team.

The celebration will have ono food,entertainment and a silent auction. Proceeds for the event and the $35 admission will support the team. Tickets are available at Dole or from any robotics team member.

According to WHS robotics adviser Glenn Lee, his team needs to raise about $100,000 a year to pay travel,equipment,robotics parts and shipping costs.

Much of that comes from grants, but 65 percent is through donations from Dole and other area businesses, he noted.“Without Dole’s assistance, we wouldn’t be able to provide our students with this outstanding opportunity.”

“We’re proud to be part of this incredible program,” said Susan Harada, vice president for retail operations at Castle & Cooke Hawaii.“The benefits for students and our community are invaluable.”
