Business Leaders On The Move In Hawaii

Dr. Gene Ng has joined Retina Institute of Hawaii’s team of ophthalmologists and surgeons. He has a strong background and interest in the development of new drugs and was a member of the management team of Eyetech, where he contributed to the development and launch of Macugen, the first anti-VEGF treatment for wet macular degeneration.

Tyler Kaleikini has been hired as an agent for New York Life Insurance Company’s Honolulu general office. In this position, Kaleikini will help provide institutional asset management and retirement plan services to his clients, among other duties. He graduated with his bachelor of arts degree from BYU-Hawaii.

Karen Tabin rejoined the Kuakini Health System as manager, Research Support Services. Prior to her return to Kuakini, Tabin worked at Hilo Hattie for three years. She previously worked for Kuakini for more than eight years and served as accounting supervisor.

Sara Grove has been promoted to box office manager for Hawaii Theatre Centre. She will be responsible for all areas of the theater’s box office operations, including staff training and supervision, setting up new shows for sale and box office accounting, and record-keeping. Grove joined Hawaii Theatre Centre in 2007 as a part-time box office staff and was named assistant box office manager in February 2008.

Susie Nguyen has been promoted from communications and public relations team leader to public relations manager for AlohaCare. In her new position, Nguyen will oversee and integrate all internal and external marketing, communications and public-relations activities. She joined the company in 2006 as a public relations associate.

Darryl M. Taira was recently certified by the National Football Players Association (NFLPA) as a contract adviser. The NFLPA is the exclusive bargaining agent for all NFL players. Taira joins an exclusive group of only three other currently certified NFLPA agents residing in the state of Hawaii. As a business and tax attorney, he has more than 25 years experience in negotiating contracts and agreements, and has established Pacific Sports Management LLC.
