Business Leaders On The Move In Hawaii

Tom Wessner has been appointed vice president of strategic procurement for Hawaiian Airlines. Wessner comes to Hawaiian with 24 years of procurement experience in the automotive industry. Before joining Hawaiian, Wessner served as director of purchasing for Tesla Motors, a start-up electrical car company based in Palo Alto, Calif., and from 2005 to 2008, he served as deputy general manager for the purchasing division at Mazda Motor Corporation in Hiroshima, Japan.

Reg Baker has been named senior vice president of Hawaii Medical Assurance Association (HMAA). In this capacity, Baker will lead HMAA’s newly created valueadded division, which supports HMAA’s affiliation with Ceridian Corporation, a leading global business services company, to cross-market services to their respective customers and members. Baker is leading and managing a comprehensive array of programs for HMAA that will expand and enhance value-added products and services.

Andrew Kekoa Abordonado, the Hawaii Pacific University 2009 valedictory speaker, was among those selected as a 2011 Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellow. The fellowships are administered by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation for the U.S. Department of State. Abordonado will study at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, and focus on U.S. foreign policy and human rights policy.
