A Selfless, Rock-solid Sweetheart

Dear Pamela,

I want to give APPLAUSE to my sweetheart of four-plus years, Larry. He has been so much more than a boyfriend. He is selfless and is quick to sacrifice on behalf of others. Specifically, on my behalf. I have been through major life changes over the last year. I have a serious heart condition that almost took my life. I had to give up my career of 10 years as a registered nurse and, therefore, the income with it. I lost my mother at age of 57 after a one-and-a-half-year battle, fighting for her life. This required many hours, days, weeks and months of my time and energy.

We have now relocated to Oahu for an opportunity he has been given. I want him to know he is my hero. I cannot thank him enough for the time he has allowed me to take care of all my needs while he waited patiently. He has always been a solid rock, never wavering, never complaining, only focused on how he can make the situation better for me, the family and the friends involved in our lives. I just wanted to find a special way to thank him.

Larry Bishop, now the lead service technician at Pacific Rim Motorcycles, throws it right back at ya’. “She’s an amazing person, really strong,” he says. “She’s my better half. I would do anything for her.”

Dear Pamela:

One morning my wife and I heard a tremendous crash. We ran upstairs to find that three shelves had collapsed in the year-old glass curio cabinet we had bought from INspiration Furniture, shattering most of the beautiful art-glass collection that we had been gathering for 30 years.

I contacted Peter Skaaning of INspiration Hawaii and explained our problem. I met him at the Pearlridge store and showed him photos of the damage. Peter kindly agreed to replace the broken curio cabinet. He wouldn’t even charge us for the new delivery.

We will certainly continue to buy our furniture and accessories there, based on the excellent service and support that Peter and his staff provide.

Dear Ken,

“Peter Skaaning is our president and even though he’s so busy, he’s very hands-on,” says INspiration and Honolulu Design Center marketing manager Joett Colgan. “All our sales reps are trained to handle any calls, but Peter likes to personally meet customers. I’ve even seen him go to clients’homes to make sure they’re happy with our service.”

Hi Pamela,

I borrowed a Sears weedwacker from a friend and when it came time to change the line, I could-n’t figure it out. I called Sears Windward - all lines were busy in Lawn and Garden for a long time. I took a chance and called Appliances, figuring someone might answer the phone and help me. Well, it was my lucky day. I was helped by a young man named Kevin. He went the extra mile - he took my name and number, went over to Lawn and Garden to look at the kind of gadget I had, called me back promptly and walked me through the procedure. It made my day a lot easier and I want to thank this excellent sales associate.

Dear Jane,

Sears appreciates him too!

Since your call to Kevin Harada, he’s been promoted. The former sales associate is now one of the managers in the Sears Hard Line Team. “Kevin is so knowledgeable. He always puts the customer first,” says store manager Phyllis Piat. “He especially enjoys helping people. When they ask him questions about the products, his face will light up. He’s really brought a lot to the team.”
