Dear Pamela,
Here in Mililani Mauka there is a very dangerous intersection abutting Mililani ‘Ike Elementary School. Children crossing four-lane Meheula Parkway at Lehiwa Drive must dodge drivers speeding downhill. After my daughters and I were nearly run over I contacted Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz’s office in hopes they would be able to expedite the process of awarding us a traffic light. Legislative aide Brandon Mitsuda responded immediately and kept me in the loop as he maneuvered city and county bureaucracy.

We recently found out that thanks in large part to his efforts, we will be getting our light. I’d like to send some big APPLAUSE out to him for making our children’s commute much safer.

Dear Michelle,
Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz thanks you and the residents of Mililani Mauka for advocating traffic safety.

“I am pleased that the Department of Transportation Services traffic safety study supported the need for the light,” he says. “I look forward to seeing Castle and Cooke construct the traffic safety signal fronting Mililani Ike Elementary School. This is a good example of how private and government sectors work togetherin our community. The safety and welfare of our residents is always a top priority, especially when it comes to children.”

Dear Pamela,
On a busy weekend, my wife and I were driving on Kahekili Highway when the car konked out from overheating. In the excitement the car got locked in gear. We’re so grateful for the kindness of Mrs. Rocky Like and her father for getting the car to the shoulder. Also mahalo to Gary White for going out of his way to get water for the car.

Dear Dave & Carmen,
Computer service owner Gary White was on his way home when he spotted you on the shoulder. “The hood was up so I stopped to see if they needed a cell phone. Paul had already called a tow truck but I told him to cancel it because all he needed was water. I also noticed a crack in the radiator. Since they didn’t live very far away I told him I’d get the water (I have a 5 gallon container) and they could drive home and then deal with repairs. I wasn’t in a hurry so it was nice to be able to help.”
