Hi, Pamela,

I was involved in an auto accident near Rainbow Drive In. A patron at Rainbow came to my door to see if I was OK, offered her cell phone, then got me a cup of water from the drive-in. She stayed until the police and my sister came. While I was speaking with the police officers, this kind lady purchased a plate lunch for me, and left. She was truly my angel that awful night, and I want to much to tell her just how much I appreciate her genuine aloha.

I would also like to thank my wonderful sister and her husband for always being there for me. I could not ask for a better kid sister. She has stood behind me through thick and thin despite her busy agenda. It’s funny how our roles have somewhat reversed - I used to always be the one to look after her. I thank God for little sisters.

Dear Chero,

Your sister JoAnne gives you some APPLAUSE right back:

Dear Sis,

No, the roles are really not reversed because, you see, you taught me a lot of the values I have today. You taught me how to cherish those you love and to always be there for them. My being there for you that Friday night was what you taught me by example.

The person who really deserves a huge thankful embrace is that sweet lady who came to your rescue soon after the accident. She went out of her way to make sure you were fed and comfortable. And then she slipped quietly away into the night without ever telling us who she was.

My response to you in time of need came naturally. This precious lady’s response was truly above and beyond anything we could expect from a perfect stranger. Thank you, dear stranger, and may your days be filled with happiness that you so deserve!

Love,

Jo

Dear Pamela,

Over the years our neighbors have come through for us, sharing fruits from their yard and helping out in many ways. When I fell and broke my arm, both Art and another wonderful neighbor Tyson offered to drive me to emergency. Art just lifted me up and even said a prayer as he drove along!

When the electricity was out after the earthquake, Art just added another whole chicken on his grill and brought it over! We’ve indeed been fortunate to have such great neighbors.

Dear Dorothy,

Art Simpson and his wife, my KITV colleague Catherine Cruz, have plenty of APPLAUSE for their wonderful neighbors.

“We received such a warm welcome when we moved into the neighborhood years ago,” says Catherine. “We knew right away we were surrounded by very caring families. We are the ones who are thankful to be a part of a special neighborhood ohana.”

(If you know someone who deserves some Applause, send your letters to Pamela Young, MidWeek Applause, KITV, 801 S. King St., Honolulu, HI, 96813 or e-mail pyoung@kitv.com. Include your name, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of your “applaudee” so we can contact him or her.)
