Dear Pamela,

Farrington High School would like to thank Mr. James Harrow, CEO and president of Security Alarm Shop Inc., for donating a bicycle to one of our students in the Teacher Cadet Program, Bao-Yen Nguyen, who will be attending Stanford University on full scholarship next school year. When Mr. Harrow learned that Bao-Yen would need a practical means of getting around on campus, he generously offered to donate a brand new bicycle. At our school’s recent scholarship awards ceremony, he surprised Bao-Yen by presenting her with a beautiful blue bicycle.

We applaud people like Mr. Harrow who believe in our students and are willing to reinforce their belief with tangible support. He said, “I had fun and would like to do it again!”

Bao-Yen, who graduated summa cum laude and was one of four valedictorians at Farrington’s graduation ceremony, will spend this summer learning to ride her new bicycle, as well as assisting in teaching summer school.

Dear Mrs. Nishihama,

James Harrow says you’re the one who should be receiving APPLAUSE. “Stephanie impressed me so much. She’s so committed to the students. I was doing some security work on her car and she made mention of this student who was going to Stanford. I’m from Palo Alto and I know you must have a bicycle to get around. I happened to have one in my shop, so I just put it in her car trunk. This was just a small donation. Stephanie is there every day, encouraging students to go to college. Now that’s something!”

Dear Pamela,

Thank you for this wonderful way to express our appreciation to all of the wonderful volunteers and staff who helped out at the Iolani Fair 2006, “Animation Sensation”! To all of the caring and generous parents, students, teachers and friends who came out to support our cause - many who worked throughout the year leading up to the fair - we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Due to all of your efforts, we were successful. We’re looking forward to seeing you all next year for another terrific fair in 2007!

James Lee and Cheryl Wong

Iolani Fair Co-Chairs

Dear James and Cheryl,

I’m sure the parents and faculty would like to give you two some APPLAUSE for organizing the huge effort that raised a net profit of nearly $300,000 for student programs!

(If you know someone who deserves some Applause, send your letters to Pamela Young, MidWeek Applause, KITV, 801 S. King St., Honolulu, HI, 96813 or e-mail pyoung@kitv.com. Include your name, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of your “applaudee” so we can contact him or her.)
