Dear Pamela,

I’d like to give some well-deserved APPLAUSE to all the people who have contributed time and money to Team Papakolea Jiu-Jitsu. We are a club that practices the self-defense martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the Papakolea Community Center. Due to a change in circumstances with a former sponsor, equipment is no longer available to us, and we are in dire need of floor tumbling mats to ensure the protection and safety of club members.

We strive to provide keiki and adults with a positive outlet in the learning of skills - practical and social - that enhance their overall quality of life. No money is wasted on administrative costs, as I run this program based on my passion for the sport and my love for teaching. The keiki, women and men put their hearts and souls into training for success today and in the future.

Mahalo to everyone making this possible.

Dear Kaleo,

Congratulations on your fundraising efforts so far. Hopefully the club will reach its goal of $10,000 for the new mats. Anyone seeking information about Team Papakolea Jiu-Jitsu or wishing to contribute can call Kaleo at 741-1520.

three star

Aloha Pamela,

Last Monday I blew out my back tire heading to Kapolei. I sat under an umbrella on the hillside with my baby nephew for two hours!

Cars sped by and tow trucks, too!

My husband came out to help, but one of the nuts was too tight. He stayed with my car to wait for a tow truck that I had called.

Along came two men from Auto Recycling and Towing. Robert and Kalani were townbound and crossed over the freeway with cold water for me and the baby.

Robert and Kalani had the proper tools to remove the stuck nut and complete the tire change. Much love and hugs to two great gentlemen!

I waited a long time and God sent me two great angels that day. May their lives and businesses be blessed tenfold!

Dear Ann,

The company Robert and Kalani work for may be going through a name change since there is another company with a similar name. We were not able to contact them at the number you provided.

Hopefully your two angels will read of your gratitude and APPLAUSE in the pages of MidWeek.

(If you know someone who deserves some Applause, send your letters to Pamela Young, MidWeek Applause, KITV, 801 S. King St., Honolulu, HI, 96813 or e-mail pyoung@kitv.com. Include your name, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of your “applaudee” so we can contact him or her.)
