DUANE “DOG” Chapman and his partner in life, Beth Smith, walked down the aisle on the Big Island last weekend. “Dog & Beth - Captured May 20, 2006” was engraved on more than 200 personalized dog tags given to guests as part of a wedding favor. Mad props to PR diva Mona Wood for coming up with such an ingenious inscription! “Not exactly the Tiffany’s dog tags that A&E gifted the stars of the show with, but they are still collector’s items,” says Wood. Jack Keating of Sport Pins International Inc. in California created the favored tags. The film crew for the bounty hunter’s show on A&E was there to capture the nuptials. Dog and his posse lost their usual tank-top-and-workout-pants garb and donned tuxedos for the wedding. When asked what he thought of the formal attire, Dog said to Mona, “Whatever Bethie wants.” ... Speaking of getting what you want, KHNL news producer Kim Lee got exactly that - a healthy bouncing baby boy. Kim became a mommy (for the second time)
on May 19. She gave birth to little Max 10 minutes before her show hit the air. When the BIG job was done, she says she was able to catch the tail end of the 5 o’clock newscast (now that’s dedication)! ... And speaking of May babies, there are three bulls in my immediate family (all of us have sharp horns). My special day lands on May 20, but apparently, so does half the town’s, too - darn, why can’t I just have one day to myself? Fellow “Taur-eminis” (that’s twin bulls in “zodiac-anese”) include KHNL video journalist Duncan Armstrong, MidWeek columnist Linda Dela Cruz, and Star 101.9 and Hot 93.9 local sales manager Laurie Mizuno. But at least I’m sharing my day with three talented people. I guess that gives us six hours each, so, I’m taking the primetime slot of 6 p.m.-midnight. What do you expect? The 20th was a Saturday. ... Seems like that was a big day for Miss Hawaii Malika Dudley, too, as she enjoyed some playtime with friends at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki’s Ciao Mein restaurant. The event featured performances by Dudley and former Miss Hawaii Traci Toguchi.
Toguchi belted out Feel the Breeze, a tune from her new album. Kevin Kaneshiro of Vacations Hawaii (you’ve seen his face on numerous local television commercials) was in charge of the entertainment lineup and raffle tickets. ... Wednesday, May 17, was the winning number for sparkly MAC makeup artist and fellow emerald baby Sunny-Lee Oshiro. Hau’oli la hanau, tita! ... Folks looking to close out the month with music can visit the O Lounge on Wednesday, May 31. That’s where they’ll get a chance to hear the original sound of singer/songwriter Bobby Rogers and the musical ensemble Coconut Joe. Band mates include Frank Kam, Peter Agustin, Barbara Ann Rogers and Joey Holliday ...
And finally, a heartfelt blessing goes out to the Chapman family as we remember and bid a fond aloha to Dog’s daughter, Barbara Chapman.
