President of Hawaii Coffee Company

I joined the industry when gourmet coffee was in its infancy, and back then one of our major accomplishments was convincing grocery stores to carry “gourmet” coffees.

Today, decades later, I am privileged as president of Hawaii Coffee Company, Hawaii’s largest roaster and purchaser of Kona coffee, to announce the arrival on Aug. 1, 2010, of our newest line of coffees: LION Coffee’s “PURE CHOICES”TM, an antioxidant-rich blend utilizing 100 percent natural KonaRed coffee fruit.

KonaRed will be added to four of LION’s premium coffee products: Original, French Roast, Coconut and Vanilla Macadamia. These exciting new products are all 100 percent natural.

One cup of this special LION Coffee contains more than double the daily recommendation of antioxidants and its abundant benefits. This brings an additional new roar to each cup of LION Coffee in this new line of blended coffees! Not since the introduction of flavored coffee has there been such a significant development.

LION Coffee is the first to develop a method to add the nutrient-rich coffee fruit back into the coffee and the first to introduce the antioxidant-rich ingredient into a coffee blend.

Jim Wayman with all things coffee

LION Coffee purchases Kona coffee fruit directly from more than 300 farmers on the Big Island, making it the largest purchaser of Kona coffee cherry in the world. We operate our own processing mill turning this raw coffee fruit into the green Kona coffee beans. These beans are then brought to Honolulu where they are roasted to perfection.

Many people are surprised to learn that Hawaii is the only significant coffee industry in the United States. While Hawaii is a relatively small producer of coffee, with 800 farms cultivating 8,000 acres of coffee, it is a world-class producer of Kona varieties and its coffee consistently sells for a higher-than-average price.

We at HCC are dedicated to creating some of the world’s most-loved coffees and take pride in being a forerunner in developing flavors and blends that showcase Hawaii’s coffee industry and meet the changing palates of each new generation of coffee lovers.

Hawaii Coffee Company has 125 employees, operates three stores and you can find our coffee in 1,200 retail outlets in Hawaii. Customers from across the globe are only one click away from a great cup of coffee via products available online from our website at lioncoffee.com/store.shtml.
