Owner and Lead Designer of Lauren Makk Interiors

As long as I can remember I have been obsessed with colors, textures and shapes, and how they affect our environment. As owner and lead designer of Honolulu’s newest design addition, Lauren Makk Interiors, I have tailored chic and smart, with the edge of city slicker.

I first developed my talents as an artist and glorified graffiti master as a young, rebellious teenager while growing up in Oklahoma City. I was inspired by urban street culture and its raw and unforgiving yet colorful whimsy. I since have refined my obsession into a passion for design, honing my skills as an interior designer and lifestylist, always figuring out how one can live more functionally and how one’s routine and organizational systems can make their lives easier.

Makk takes a different approach to each room

My time on the Emmy Award winning Trading Spaces on TLC where two homeowners switch places to design a room for each other in two days with only $1,000 was the perfect experience for me because I have always identified with having a strict budget. There was no way we ever paid full price for anything in my house growing up, so I knew exactly how to make that budget work for me. Creative expertise in maximizing a budget was a constant and is exactly what helped me become one of America’s favorite designers.

In Drill Team on A&E I had the arduous task of finding practical solutions to renovation disasters. I’m a crooked builder’s worst nightmare because I make sure that they are not trying to pull the wool over my clients’ eyes and sell them something expensive that they really don’t need. I have been raised in the home-improvement industry and I am well-equipped to solve all construction and home-improvement issues.

It is that philosophy that catapulted my Los Angelesturned-Honolulu-based interior design firm to the top and what continues to fuel its success. I feel like impeccable design should not just be limited to those who fall in a certain tax bracket or who can afford to drive a certain car. Good design can be achieved no matter what your income, and should be taught and practiced every time, no matter the budget. I approach each space and tailor clients’ spaces to ensure their lives are changed for the better through good design.

When you love what you’re doing it shows, and I am so thankful and blessed that I get to share my talents with the world.
