Celebrating Chinese Women

Bishop Museum will be the setting for a unique exhibit, Celebrating Chinese Women: Qing Dynasty to Modern Hawaii, featuring the ornate robes of the women of the Imperial Court and accoutrements from The Palace Museum of the Forbidden City in Beijing. The exhibit opens Saturday, April 22 and will be on display through May 21 in the Castle Memorial Building. The exhibition also will showcase beautiful textiles from The Chinese Costume Museum of Donghua University in Shanghai. More than 50 priceless artifacts from these two prestigious Chinese museums are on display for the first time ever in the United States. This exhibit is presented in partnership with the Associated Chinese University Women, celebrating its 75th anniversary, with major support from the Harry C. and Nee Chang C.Wong Foundation. The Bishop Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $14.95 for adults; $11.95 for youths 4-12 years, special rates for kama‘aina, senior citizens and military; free for children under 4 years and Bishop Museum members. Win Jewels For Mom

Is Mom the light of your life? Kids, here’s your chance to tell the world how wonderful your mom is, and a chance to win something that will make her eyes light up: A gold and diamond pendant from Reflections of the Heart at Kahala Mall. “My Mom deserves a diamond because …” is an essay contest for Mother’s Day, for kids in grades K-6. Begin the essay with “My Mom deserves a diamond because …” and explain in 300 words or less why your mom should win a beautiful gold and diamond pendant from Reflections of the Heart.

Three first prizes will be awarded, one for each age group: grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-6. 50 second prizes of gorgeous African garnets will also be awarded. Essays must be postmarked by April 21; prizes will be awarded in the store on May 13. Reflections of the Heart has distributed official entry forms to some Oahu schools, and entry forms are also available at Reflections of the Heart, located in the Macy’s wing in Kahala Mall.
