The U.S. Postal Service celebrates the spirit of “Aloha” with five new stamps, each depicting a different aloha shirt, to be released Jan. 19. Manufacturer Alfred Shaheen created four of the shirts in the stamp art one depicts surfers and their boards on a black background, another shows the tropical flower known as the bird of paradise, one shows the Big Island volcano Kilauea, and the fourth carries the private label of retailer Watumull’s and Leilani and depicts fossil fish, shells and sea stars. The red shirt showing surfers and a large wave was manufactured by Malihini.

Art director Carl Herrman designed the stamps using photos by Honolulu-based photographer Ric Noyle.

The colorful stamps are denominated at the postcard rate.
