If you’re in need of a place to gather with large groups of family or friends this holiday season, you might want to consider some of the added attractions at Hawaii’s largest seafood buffet.

At Makino Chaya, kids eat free at both the Pearlridge and Aloha Tower locations, and the buffet continues to offer some outstanding deals. Makino Chaya now offers Wagyu beef as part of the buffet along with lobster tails and king crab. The acclaimed Wagyu beef, considered the tastiest and most expensive in the world, is on the menu daily as part of the $14 lunch buffet.

“We have some people who come now and that’s all they eat,” says owner Toru Makino. Other holiday deals at Makino Chaya include a free meal to celebrate your birthday (seniors age 65 and over and children under 7) or 50 percent off your food check on your birthday (ages 7 to 64).

Foodie Trip to China For McCully Shopping Center Winners.

A trip to McCully Shopping Center earlier this year resulted in a trip to China for Jonathon and Kelly Gabrielson, who won the shopping center’s travel contest.

“We ran the promotion in June and July to celebrate the diverse cultural cuisine at the center,“says PR director Terri Hansen.“It’s nice to know that the Gabrielsons had such a great time.”

The Cuisines Around the World promotion included tastings and specials at most of the shopping center restaurants, including Fook Yuen, Phuket Thai, Tudo De Bom, So Gong Dong and Viet Caf. Contestants had to correctly identify which national flag belonged to each restaurant to win the trip to China.

Jonathon and Kelly left Honolulu for China Oct. 8 and returned Oct. 19, having spent four nights in Beijing, one night in Xian and five nights in Shanghai. The event was sponsored in part by MidWeek and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

McCully Shopping Center has restaurants specializing in all styles of cuisine from Hawaiian to Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese.
