A bite-sized look at Father’s Day dining.

d.k. Steak House.

If your dad is a steak lover with adventurous tastes, head to d.k Steak House in Waikiki. Located on the third floor of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa, d.k’s has the only on-premise aging room in Hawaii. Meats are aged for approximately 28 days before being pronounced perfect. The aging creates a tender, intensely flavored steak and a whole new dining experience.

“People seem to love the bolder flavors of the steaks,” says managing partner Ivy Nagayama, “and our customers all comment on how tender the meats are.”

Executive chef Jason Miyasaki has put together a special menu for this weekend - including jumbo black tiger shrimp and scallop lumpia, wok-fried whole moi, rosemary-marinated veal chops and a full rack of St. Louis-style ribs (with a grilled Maui onion barbecue sauce). Complete meals (with steak house salad or soup, loaded baked potato, veggie and dessert) include 12-ounce Seared Prime Rib ($35) and “Captains Cut” Seared Prime Rib (24 ounces for $45). If you really want to treat your dad to something extraordinary, then bring him for the restaurant’s specialty Kobe-style boneless rib eye. The 10-ounce juicy, tender steak is $80 and is fast becoming one of the legendary steaks on the island.

In addition to steaks, seafood and fresh Island fish, there’s a menu of local favorites that include owner D.K. Kodama’s mom’s excellent meatloaf, Home-Style Pork Chops ($19.95), and a Prime Burger and Fries ($17.95).

With fruits and vegetables grown right outside the restaurant and a bakery producing pies, cookies and boxed treats, Helemano offers not just a great place to stop and lunch, but a vision of sustainability.

The all-you-can-eat buffet lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $8.50 per person, $6 for children ages 2-10.
