Hale Koa Christmas: Music, Food and Family Fun.

There’s nothing quite like a trip around the Hale Koa Hotel to put you in the holiday spirit.

The hotel is famous for its annual decorations that include gingerbread villages, model railways and hundreds of ornaments donated by regular guests over the past 20 years.

There’s a full Christmas program of events at Hale Koa this year, including a candlelight dinner show with Nohelani Cypriano on Christmas Eve. It’s a fine way to get your Christmas Eve off to a magical start. Guests gather in the Luau Garden for an evening of song, dance and dinner, where the menu includes roasted beef tenderloin and grilled sea scallops.

A Christmas Day brunch at the hotel includes hot and cold salads, breakfast meats and eggs and entrees of roasted turkey, baked ham and mahimahi.

The Hale Koa Hotel is open to active and retired military and their families.

Anna Miller’s: The Aroma of Fresh Fruit Pies.

When it comes to holiday pie-making, there’s probably no restaurant that does it better than Anna Miller’s. Famous for its freshly baked, fruit-filled pies, the Pearlridge restaurant is ready for the Christmas and New Year’s rush with a full-time staff working around the clock.

“We’re busy with orders for fruit pies,” says manager Wade Hashizumi. “At Christmas time our fruit pies are really popular.”

Pies come in dozens of flavors, including apple, macadamia nut, pecan and cheesecake, and are made in reusable, old-fashioned pie tins.

Chef Nobu Matsuhisa

The restaurant doesn’t take orders for pies, so turn up early Christmas Eve if you’re planning a party or need the perfect potluck dish. Prices start at under $10 for an apple pie, including the refundable tin deposit.

Pies aside, Anna Miller’s is open 24 hours daily, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and a host of Island favorites that include chili pot pie, homestyle meatloaf and pot roast.

Sam Choy’s Chef Aurelio Garcia

With twinkling Christmas lights, one of the most exciting and accessible wine lists in town and a creative chef in the kitchen, Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas at Restaurant Row is a great choice for those looking for sophisticated and memorable Christmas dining.

On the menu Christmas Eve/Day you’ll find five courses from Chef Hiroshi Fukui. Start with a duo of sushi, pepper-seared ahi and torched filet mignon. Move onward through courses of Kona cold lobster followed by slow-cooked butterfish, and then choose from entrees of Cornish game hen, crispy skin moi or Maui Cattle Company rib eye steak. Hiroshi’s regular menu will not be available Dec. 24 and 25. Ask one of the enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff for wine recommendations to complete your dinner.
