Maia Knudsen-Schule

Maia Knudsen-Schule was born on Molokai and started acting in plays in the fifth grade at Kualapuu School. She currently attends Mid-Pacific Institute as a junior, enrolled at the School of the Arts and was in the production of Shakuntala in the role of Sarngarava. Maia was discovered by photographer Chris McDon-ough eating at Volcano Joe’s. The great headshots for her portfolio were taken by him. Her favorite actor is Jon Heder of hit movie Napoleon Dynamite. Used to play volleyball, but gave up digs and spikes to focus on her acting career. Her gorgeous looks come from a blend of Chinese, Hawaiian and Caucasian. Maia raves about Molokai Pizza Cafe and Verbano’s in Kaimuki. Recently saw her performance and I see the makings of a major star. Maia definitely has what it takes …

Comedian Paul Ogata is taking his show on the road once again. This trip is taking him to the Far East — Hong Kong and Singapore, to be exact. He became an overnight movie star after starring in The Amazing Asian by Gerard Elmore. Paul’s next appearance on the silver screen will be with Jim Belushi and Damon Wayans in Behind the Smile

New York, New York. Just in from the Big Apple, Gina Hiraizumi said aloha to all her fans here. The Hot Spot starring Larenz Tate and Gina is coming to your neighborhood Blockbuster Video. You can’t miss the cover with five gorgeous women. It’s a comedy movie with hip-hop flavor. Larenz was recently in the film with Oscar Best Actor winner Jamie Foxx in Ray. Gina is a frequent visitor to the islands and heads turn wherever she goes. Broadway beckoned for her and now she got called back for Brooklyn, The Musical. The play stars Kevin Anderson, who’s most noted for playing John F. Kennedy in movie Power and Beauty. More on Gorgeous Gina? You can go to her website at: www.ginaonline.net

Dezmond Gilla

Dezmond Gilla landed yet another leading role in Street Wars by Nelson Pires. Dez was last seen in Public Access: Episode 04 of 05 by filmmaker Lon Takiguchi. His most memorable commercial is the one he goes nuts in the diner for Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. In the upcoming film The Orb by Scott Mason, Dez plays the character Paul Wending supported by newcomers Ioulia Alcorn, Nicole Gose and Sarina Smith. More on the talented trio of beauties later …

Actress Erika Rochane, pronounced row-shon, is doing very well after relocating to Hollywood. She’s a University of Hawaii graduate and a Waipahu girl. She co-starred with John Savage in Dead Man’s Run a few years back. Made an appearance at Dragonfest in Glendale, Calif., recently, for you martial arts fans. Erika’s favorite films are my faves too: Braveheart, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and The Godfather. Her ethnicity is a blend of French, Black and Native American. She’s beautiful with a capital B. Check out her website at www.erikarochane.com

Eric Byler will direct American-Knees starring Joan Chen, Kelly Hu and Ben Shenkman. The film will be produced by Lisa Onodera, who did Picture Bride a decade ago in Hawaii. Eric grew up in Hawaii and is a graduate of Moanalua High. The movie will be based on the novel by Shawn Wong. Eric was last seen in the islands promoting his feature Charlotte Sometimes a few years back. His current film Tre is in post-production and stars University of Hawaii graduate Kimberly-Rose Kaiulani Wolter, who cowrote the film. Enjoy the weekend …
