Christian Gutierrez

Introducing the youngest member of Screen Actors Guild, Christian Gutierrez. He was only 5 when he landed the role in 50 First Dates. He plays the youngest son of Rob Schneider. You can say Christian is a method actor. He took swim lessons from Jane Kratochvil at Aloha Aquatic Center in Niu Valley to prepare him for the part. Awesome. He studies taekwondo with Master Dae Sung Lee at the U.S. Taekwondo Center in Aina Haina. Christian earned his purple belt recently. If you want to see this budding celebrity, Christian is known to hang out at Bubbies ice cream in Hawaii Kai …

Kiree Mariko Higa loves to watch movies, especially Dirty Dancing with Patrick Swayze. Her favorite TV show is Lost. Excellent choice. Kiree is a Pearl City high school graduate and currently attends KCC. I first met Kiree at the Barbizon Hawaii mock competition where I was one of the judges. There is nothing harder than performing in front of judges, but she came out with flying colors. She studied with talent coordinator Doreen Tani at Barbizon. Kiree is developing her skills behind the camera too. She recently assisted Jeff Katts at his casting call for his latest film project. For relaxation, she surfs until the sun dips beyond the horizon …

Film veteran Chanell Akamine studied the art of mime under Etienne & Maximilian Decroux in Paris. Master of mime Marcel Marceau became one of their most famous students. Chanell landed his first speaking role on Hawaii 5-0 back in 1976 as a slimy character “Joko.” His role eventually became a recurring one. He’s also an accomplished singer and an award-winning producer. His credits include The Big Bounce with Morgan Freeman and Owen Wilson. Appeared on My Wife & Kids, Baywatch and Fantasy Island and in Bud Lite and Kirin Beer commercials, where I first met him. I’m surprised Hollywood hasn’t got hold of Chanell’s fantastic screenplays. His acting career spans 30 years and is still going strong. Next up is a principal role in Stealth 101, a film by Steve Meyer. Young actors can learn so much from Chanell, this incredible, multitalented actor …

Erica Aloang
is a University of Hawaii graduate and a media specialist for the school. Her passion is music, though. She’s the rhythm guitarist for rock band Missing Dave. They recently opened the show for 3 Doors Down at Pipeline Cafe. For more on Erica’s band, check out their website at www.missingdave.com. Met Erica several years ago on the set of Paper Cranes by filmmaker Ryan Kawamoto. She was in charge of catering and craft service. Literally fed everyone on the set. By the way, Erica, I loved your sandwiches. Next gig for Missing Dave is Friday at Wave Waikiki. Check them out …

Actor Jason New is raring to go audition for a soldier’s part for Clint Eastwood. I talked to him last week, he said coming back home to work on Flags of Our Fathers would be a treat. What actor wouldn’t want to work with “Dirty Harry” Callahan himself? Jason currently resides in Playa Del Rey, Calif., but Hawaii is home. In Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, Jason played Lorenzo opposite Pamela Anderson. He tells me it’s so competitive in Tinseltown, even the animals have agents and personal trainers. I know he’s not joking …

Amanda Sellers is vying for
‘Maxim’ mag’s Hometown
Hotties title

Southern California native Amanda Sellers played volleyball for the UC-Irvine Anteaters. This 6-foot stunner with ice-blue eyes can make men weak in the knees. She’s got model looks but has a great sense of humor. Amanda’s going for Maxim magazine’s Hometown Hotties title. You can vote for her at www.maximonline.com in two weeks. Amanda graduated from Cypress High School, where she played volleyball, water polo and swam competitively. She works at Sun Splash Tans, where she maintains her gorgeous tan. Loves Japanese food, and her favorite restaurant is Irifune on Kapahulu. Amanda’s first job was as a coach for a peewee baseball team. None of my baseball coaches looked like her when I played ball! Oh well, don’t forget to vote …
