Serena Karnagy in the moment

Congratulations to Serena Karnagy on winning the title of 2007 Miss Hawaii Teen USA. The pageant was held at the Sheraton Waikiki and produced by Takeo Kobayashi and Eric Chandler. I met Serena through photographer Rick Bernico, who raved about this student from Punahou. The most impressive quality about her was humility and maturity. A year later she lands her first starring role in Brown by Renato Fontaine. The film premiered at a sold-out venue at the 2006 Hawaii International Film Festival. Filmmaker Mark Ganialongo cast her as the lead in a New Hope commercial recently. Her talents include ballroom dancing, hula and get this, she’s a four-time USA karate national champion. Serena definitely has “star” written all over her ...

Actor James Larson was born in Honolulu and spent his early years in Kaneohe. His father was an Army doctor, so they were stationed in many states and eventually settled in Minnesota. James graduated from Stanford University and San Francisco Institute of Architecture. He currently resides on Kauai, but flew into Honolulu to attend the Actors’ Showcase. His movie credits are Windtalkers, To End All Wars, Jurassic Park III and Fifty First Dates. When he’s not on the set, he enjoys playing guitar, photography and writing poetry. I worked with him on the war film To End All Wars on Kauai. It was fun playing enemies and then eating lunch together. It’s all in a day’s work as actors. You can rent the movie, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Robert Carlyle, local actors Dennis Ihara and James McCarthy, at Blockbuster ...

Promoter Alan Arato sends greetings from Thailand, where he finally settled down with wife Kanjana Kongkoon. Alan is doing marketing and public relations work for the trendy nightclubs in Bangkok and Pattaya Beach. He was in Hawaii visiting family and friends a while ago. My favorite production of his was the Shock House during Halloween season. Working together with Tom Moffatt, they brought the biggest musical entertainment here. I still remember the incredible Michael Jackson concert at Aloha Stadium a decade ago. Drop a line to Alan at www.myspace.com/hawaiicasting to say hello. On a closing note, he said to give his love and aloha to all the people of Hawaii. He’ll be back ...
