Laine Yoshioka is a young
actress in demand

Actress Laine Yoshioka recently wrapped on Grandma’s Recipe by filmmaker Imelda Betiong and The Fish, 95.5 FM radio spot by Chuck Crossno. The first time I saw Laine perform was in a class with veteran actors. She impressed me with her poise and maturity in her acting. At a young age she started performing in theatre productions at Castle Performing Arts Center under the watchful eye of Ron Bright. He was influential in the career path that Laine is pursuing right now. She just returned from Japan on a mission with her youth choir from New Hope Christian Fellowship. Her favorites are Natalie Portman, Johnny Depp and ice cream cake. Laine played the lead in Elevation by Academy of Creative Media student Seong Whang. Her love interest was played by popular actor Dezmond Gilla. Her credits include Disney’s The Shaggy Dog with Tim Allen, Robert Downey Jr., Danny Glover and Kristin Davis. I’m not surprised that Laine is the most in-demand young actress in town. Stay tuned … Robin Tanudra started training in Kenpo Karate in Ewa Beach under grandmaster Jaime Abregana Sr. at the Ewa Kenpo Karate Club. Robin earned his black belt in 1982 and his chief instructor’s certificate in 1987. He attended Sacramento State where he earned a bachelor’s in computer science. Together with actor Jaime Abregana Jr. they promoted some of the great fight shows in Hawaii kickboxing history, including four sanctioned title fights and one world title match. Robin will be working with Jaime and yours truly in the upcoming movie Showdown, which is slated to be filmed this fall. Robin’s recent role is in Dark Ride, filmed in Santa Monica, Calif.; Craig Singer directed and Chris Williams produced … Lots of actors are thrilled that the hit ABC series Lost is back filming in the isles. Marcia Ardito, Mary Ann Taheny, Wayne Geiger and Bryan Sato among many. Reprising the role as Ana-Lucia Cortez is Michelle Rodriguez. She was one of the Blue Crush surf girl beauties. Also want to throw a shout out to Sean ‘D’ for my crew T-shirt. Margaret Doversola is casting director; she gave me my break in Godzilla. Even got my SAG card. She’s literally responsible for kick-starting acting careers for many local actors. Lost is a bonafide hit and ignited more than 20 fan websites! A huge mahalo to executive producers J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof. Both French and German viewers have jumped on this runaway bandwagon. Are you on it? So get on board and start watching the best TV series bar none! Your only excuse would be if you lived on a remote island somewhere …

Producer Titus Chong and actor Lew Lappert
attended the ‘Whale Rider’ screening at the
Hawaii Theatre

Seen about town were producer Titus Chong and actor Lew Lappert at the Hawaii Theatre. They attended the screening of Whale Rider starring Keisha Castle-Hughes, Rawiri Paratene, Vicky Haughton and Cliff Curtis. Keisha was nominated last year for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The film was directed by Niki Caro, who just wrapped North Country with Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand, Sissy Spacek and Woody Harrelson in Minnesota. Pacific Islanders in Communication, Hawaii Alliance for Arts Education and Girl Scout Council of Hawaii sponsored the event. Mayor Mufi Hannemann awarded Keisha on stage with a proclamation for July 27 to officially become Keisha Castle-Hughes Day. She looked absolutely thrilled. Titus is producing a new TV show called Stolen Reels with R. Kevin Doyle hosting. The show will star Sherry Shaoling Chock, Stephanie Sanchez, Masumi Childers, Michael Ng and Lew Lappert. Break a leg, guys …
