Actresses Chanelle Kukona, Lena Kaneshiro and Mane at the 2005 Actors’ Showcase
Actresses Chanelle Kukona, Lena Kaneshiro and
Mane at the 2005 Actors’ Showcase

Lena Kaneshiro was born and raised in Hawaii. She wears many hats in the entertainment world - actress, writer and producer are a few titles. Lena is one of the few people in town who does many things and does them well. She appeared in films, on stage and local TV spots. Lena is a graduate of UH with a BA in business administration, and co-founded Epiphany Films with Leigh Ann Kinghorn and Mane. Lena’s produced seven short films and one feature so far. She recently returned to the big screen in Grandma’s Recipe by filmmaker Imelda Betiong. The film premiered at the 2005 HIFF Hawaii Panorama. Lena’s acting credits include Seeking Rainbows, A Legacy, Code Chaotic, A Boy a Girl and a Dead Cat and Pearl Harbor. At the Maui Writers Conference in Wailea, her screenplay Portals won top honors. Public Access: Episode 04 of 05 by Lon Takiguchi was screened at 2004 HIFF. The indie feature was produced by Bret Bajema, Titus Chong and Lena. Featured players are Sam Polson, Lew Lappert, Dezmond Gilla, Clea Saldania and Shawna Washabaugh. Next on slate for Lena? I’m sure more excellent films ... Saint Louis High alum Eric Ward worked on Flightplan with Jodie Foster, Peter Sarsgaard, Sean Bean and Erika Christensen. The film was released earlier this fall. He also worked with the one and only Julie Newmar in Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt.

She was the original Catwoman before the Halle Berry version. Just some trivia: Eric’s parents Fran and Wayne Ward reside in Hawaii Kai. Both are still active in theatre productions. Eric spent his teens in Portlock before trekking to Tinseltown. Talent definitely runs in the family. Megan Ward starred with John Cleese, Lochlyn Munro, Dan Marino and Dick Vitale in Dave Barry’s Complete Guide to Guys ... The amazing series Lost is getting major worldwide attention now. Hawaii has a bonafide hit on its shore, although the story takes place somewhere in the Pacific. I’m happy for the local actors and crew who are working on the show. Actors Michael Lanzo, Mickey Graue, Michael Cowell, Michael Adamshick, Jeanna Garcia, Pattie Hastie, Kiersten Havelock and Tomiko Lee made recent guest appearances. The show has spawned more than 40 websites in Europe. Is Asia next? I have no doubt. My favorite Lost site is at www.lost-tv.com, the content is a wealth of information. Check it out and enjoy ... The new season of Hawaii’s Reel Stories on OC16 is on the air. Congratulations to producer Don Brown!...
