I was invited to be a judge at the Barbizon School’s mock competition by Doris Miocinovic. She’s getting her students ready for the International Performing Arts Conference. The venue is the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, right in the heart of tinseltown. Along with my fellow judges, producers Titus Chong and Jeff Katts, we had a great time looking over the future talent of Hawaii. Among the many who were impressive in the group: Rhyce Bantolina, April Pongasi-Golden, Kesha Miller, Grace TsubakiNoguchi, Bangu Alicia Ntwaagae, Kimi Tupuola and

Rico Tudor. I’ll do a followup on a few talented actors I discovered…

Filmmaker Jay Curlee is in Florida shooting Rocking The Boat. The documentary film is about the famous American roots musician Delbert McClinton. The film is produced by Yuri Biersach and shot by local cinematographer Ken Libby. Jay directed the award-winning PBS series Growing Old in a New Age for the University of Hawaii’s Center on Aging. Anthony Lenzer was the executive producer on the successful video series…

Pearl City High alumna Kuuipo Naehu acted in the film The Sand Island Drive-In Anthem recently. The film was directed by award-winning filmmaker Ryan Kawamoto. Kuuipo’s credits include Even Stevens, I Scream, Floats & Sundays, Kava Kultcha and

Aloha Christmas. She’s one of the best acting talents to emerge in the past few years. Her taste in movies is diverse, Rush Hour 2, Mary Poppins, Goonies and the Star Wars saga. Keep your eye on this upand-coming actress…

He’s looking for a few good men and women. Filmmaker Mark Ganialongo is casting his next movie titled Fatal Journey. The story is about a group of angels and demons who enter a couple’s life to influence them that will eventually lead to either their demise or salvation. Sounds very intriguing. The casting call is slated to begin this Saturday from 10-5 pm. Want to try out for a part? You can contact him at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to make an appointment. Mark’s previous short film Foresight stars Dez Gilla and Jeanette Chieko Roberts...

There are many talented actors who made contributions to Hollywood. Here’s the rundown of their alma mater. Don Stroud: Kaimuki, Megan Ward: Kaiser, Keiko Agena, Daniel Bess: Mid Pacific Institute, Jason Scott Lee: Pearl City, Amanda Schull, Carrie Ann Inaba, Kelly Preston: Punahou, Bette Midler: Radford, Stan Egi: Roosevelt and Tia Carrere: Sacred Hearts Academy. I’ll get to a few more in the next round…
