Here’s an update on what’s new with actress Malia Verdadero. She’ll be back at Waipahu High School this fall as a senior. She starred in two award-winning movies at the 2004 and 2005 Hawaii International Film Festival.

The films were Kamea by Jennifer AkanaSturla, Matthew Thompson, who turned 15 recently. He seems to be racking up his film credits at lightspeed. He wrapped on the trailer of the 2006 ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase recently. Filmmaker Ryan Kawamoto directed the spot starring Mark Ganialongo, Dezmond Gilla, Lew Lappert, Libette Garcia, Olena Rubin and Laine Yoshioka. Matthew’s credits are Disney’s Mike’s Super Short Show, Lost, Haunted Hawaii and Valtor the Great vs. The Universe. His pastime is practicing taekwondo - he’s a black belt, by the way. He loves pepperoni pizza, cookie dough ice cream and Alfred Hitchcock movies.

What a combo. Next on Matthew’s busy schedule is another role in a period movie ...

Annabel Lacara is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She penned the screenplay for the movie Surf Sistahs currently in pre-production. April Grover, star of MTV’s Surf Girls , is attached to the project as one of the leads. Cristina Luck and Harmony Pacheco, both talented upcoming actresses, are to appear in substantial roles.
