The 2007 Miss East Oahu and Miss Kahala Scholarship Pageant was won by Kawena Chun and Ashley Layfield respectively. Congratulations to pageant director Ann Mata for producing the successful event. The ladies competed in were evening gown, personal interview, swimsuit, platform question and talent. The pageant was emceed by Gregg Hammer at Windward Community College’s Paliku Theatre. Photographer Rick Bernico covered the show and provided me with the great photos. For their talent showcase, Kawena did a Tahitian dance and Ashley did a tap dance. Both of these beautiful ladies will prepare for Miss Hawaii in June. Stay tuned ...

Jeptha has a unique style and his commitment to perfection is known to many. Also provided coverage for the Hula Bowl and NFL Pro Bowl. Newcomer Tracy Mattos currently attends the University of Hawaii with a double major in secondary education and mathematics. Received her first credit on TV series Las Vegas that filmed here recently. Worked alongside Kelly Hu, Vanessa Marcil and James Lesure. Tracy is a 2005 graduate of Mililani High School and was born and raised here. One of her favorites isthe incredible documentary March of the Penguins. She also loves watching romance and horror movies. Besides being a whiz at math, she’s a talented screenwriter and an accomplished pianist. Recently saw her improvisational acting and was impressed with her comic timing. Tracy definitely has the chops to make it far in showbiz. You read it in Hawaiiwood first! ...

Mike Bacon is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Punahou School. He’s been recognized for his outstanding work on sound mixing for films. From taking still photographs, he moved on to TV shows, commercials and motion pictures. Worked on Tides of War, The Run Down, Tears of the Sun, Blue Crush, Pearl Harbor and City of Angels.
