Kudos to Beau Mohr and Lincoln Jacobe for an incredible opening night gala at Pearl. The restaurant/nightclub was filled to capacity with actors, local celebs, models and movers and shakers of the business world. Hawaii Pacific Entertainment was there on the red carpet taking photos. It was truly a Hollywood type event. Among the partygoers were Ron Nagasawa, Kathryn Drury Wagner, Kutmaster Spaz, Maki Vernon, Jill Kuramoto, Sam Monaghan, Erika Kauffman, Scott Francis Russell, Caryl Nishioka, Titus Chong, Brynn Jolliffe and Brett Wagner. The evening was one I will remember for a long time ...

I met Gina Saldania on the set of the TV series Marker starring Richard Grieco. She earned her Screen Actors Guild membership 12 years ago and is still going strong. Her career started on Magnum P.I., her recent credits include Las Vegas, Beyond the Break and You, Me and Dupree. She’s an alumna of Star of the Sea School in Kahala and Chaminade University. Gina’s a beautiful blend of seven ethnicities: Filipino, English, German, Irish, Portuguese, Scottish and Spanish. She won numerous beauty pageants that led to the Elite Modeling Agency in New York signing her. Related to actress Donna Reed, and I definitely see a resemblance. Gina admitted to liking fast foods, Taco Bell that is. Her favorite actor is versatile Jonathan Rhys Meyers who became a star after Bend It Like Beckham. We’re both hoping the much talked about Magnum P.I. movie materializes ...

I’ve seen a tremendous growth in the entertainment industry over the past several years. Contributing are the following ladies and gents: Amy Brookes, Candy Tjarks, Janel Yamasaki,

Kalai Kamauoha, Kellie Peterson, Mona Wood, Serena Karnagy, Teri Stroud, Brandon Reid, Edison Erorita, Grant Uchida and Nelson Quan. Happy birthdays to all of you! Have a great one ...

Renato Fontaine is a UH Lab School and UH-Manoa alum. Born in the Philippines and raised in Kailua. His film Brown starring Serena Karnegy, Edison Erorita, Andrea Hunter, Jomar Miranda and Jeremiah Tayao will premiere at the 2006 Hawaii International Film Festival. Renato loves David Lynch movies, cheesecake and homemade pizza. He’s one of the most talented filmmakers to emerge from the Academy of Creative Media at UH. His film Promise of Paradise was screened at the 2005 HIFF to an enthusiastic crowd. I see him as a filmmaker who’s not afraid to take on social issues. Currently working on a screenplay about a Filipino single father raising his half-Caucasian daughter. Check out his film at the Hawaii Panorama 2 segment of HIFF on Sunday, Oct. 22, 3 p.m. at Regal Dole Cannery Theatres. See you all at the theatres ...
