Ariyoshi & DOE Form Essay Contest

Former Gov. George Ariyoshi recently teamed up with the Hawaii state Department of Education to announce a competition titled “The Young Messengers of Hawaii High School Essay Contest.” The contest is for public high school and public charter school students, providing them the opportunity to write essays addressing the following prompt: “What do you think needs to happen in the next 50 years for Hawaii to be the best place to work and live?” Each school-level winner will be recognized at the state Capitol in January 2011. Jamba Juice Raises $10,300

Jamba Hawaii customers recently helped to raise $10,300 for Hawaii No-Kill Animal Shelters by purchasing Jamba Oatmeal. Twenty-five cents from each bowl of Jamba Organic Oatmeal sold at Jamba stores in Hawaii was donated to several no-kill animal shelters that help prevent cruelty to animals. MADD Hawaii Receives $5,000 Donation

State Farm Insurance recently presented MADD Hawaii with a $5,000 donation at the annual MADD Labor Day Sobriety Checkpoint held at Ala Moana Beach Park. Volunteers waved signs reminding motorists not to drink and drive, and also handed out MADD’s red ribbons to drivers who successfully passed the sobriety checkpoints conducted by HPD officers.
