BOE Praises ASB

The state Board of Education recently recognized American Savings Bank for its commitment to advance public education throughout the state, citing the bank’s “longstanding record” of providing grants, sponsoring events and volunteering in programs that benefit Hawaii schools. MidWeek editor Don Chapman accepts a Pa’i Award from Ted Dixon of the Hawaii Publishers Association last Wednesday during a luncheon at the Pagoda Hotel. The first-place award was in the feature writing category, for Chinn Ho, Five-O, >written by Yu Shing Ting as the new show was debuting last September. MidWeek picked up another first in editorial cartoon, for Dick Adair’s When Johnny Comes Marching Home (Roy Chang won that category last year), and was second in best non-daily newspaper (with Maui Times taking top honors there). Does A Scholar Good

The University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) announced the establishment of the Hawai’i Fresh Milk Industry Legacy Scholarship Endowment. The $35,000 scholarship gift from the Hawai’i Fresh Milk Industry will support students pursuing studies in the animal sciences program with an interest in sustainable dairy or other livestock production in the Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences.
