CPASF Scholarships Awarded May 14

Recipients of the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship Foundation scholarships gathered at the Japanese Consulate in Honolulu to accept their awards from the chairman of the board of trustees, Howard Hamamoto. Five scholars were given certificates this year: (front, from left) Natsuko Higa (2008-2010 recipient), Hiromi Yoshida (2008-2010 recipient), Satona Murakami (2009-2011 recipient),Yohei Sekiguchi (2009-2011 recipient) and Sharon Fukayama (2010-2011 recipient). Also pictured are (back, from left) Etsuko Kamo, Consul General Yoshihiko Kamo, Hamamoto and CPASF president Ed Hawkins. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote better understanding between the peoples of Japan and the United States by providing scholarships to UH scholars to study in Japan and Japanese scholars to study at UH.

Shidler Business Team Gets $2,500

A team of three UH-Manoa Shidler College of Business students were first runner-up in the 2010 Thammasat Asia Moot Corp in Bangkok. The only team from the United States, the Shidler group beat out many of Asia’s top universities in China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore and Thailand with its business plan for a company called MB Therapeutics that focuses on developing and establishing the standard for noninvasive targeted drug/gene delivery to improve patient treatment and quality of life. Pictured with faculty adviser John Butler (second from left), the Shidler team is comprised of business graduate students (from left) Tarik Sultan, Tiffany Chiang and Omar Sultan. The team received a trophy and $2,500 for its performance.
