Jack, ‘Star-Advertiser’ Aid Kids

At a time when many of Hawaii’s nonprofit organizations are experiencing financial hardships, the local franchisee of Jack in the Box restaurants is stepping up with a $15,000 donation to Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii. This donation was partly funded through proceeds from purchases of Honolulu Star-Advertiser made at local Jack in the Box restaurants. SHA Marching Band Earns Top Honor

The Sacred Hearts Academy band recently earned first place in the marching band competition at the Aloha FestivalS Floral Parade. The Lancers competed against 11 bands. The SHA band is the largest all-girl band in the nation, and is under the direction of academy teacher Matthew Martin. The band performs frequently in local parades and was selected to participate in the 2009 New Year’s Day in London. Pictured (from left) are Betty White, Mai Shiomi, Jinny Ching and Matthew Martin.

Hawaii Lions Help Feed The Hungry

The Hawaii Lions of District 50 recently rounded up more than three tons of canned food and $4,052 in monetary donations during its inaugural food drive. All donations benefitted food banks on Oahu, the Big Island, Maui and Kauai.
