Kraft Foods Hawaii Donates $5,000

Kraft Foods in Hawaii recently kicked off the 17th annual “Check-Out Hunger” program with a $5,000 donation to the Hawaii Foodbank. Running through Jan. 10, 2011, at participating grocery stores, the annual fundraising campaign helps to feed Hawaii’s hungry during the holiday season. To make a donation during this year’s program, shoppers should look for the bright-green Check-Out Hunger tear-off coupons at checkouts in participating grocery stores. ‘MidWeek’ Visits Salt Lake Elementary

MidWeek publisher Ron Nagasawa took time recently to read aloud to the students of Sandra Low’s second-grade class at Salt Lake Elementary. As part of National Young Readers Week, the keiki enjoyed the entertaining tale of Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!. National Young Readers Week is an annual event that was co-founded in 1989 by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. To make this week special, many schools recruit local “celebrities” to read aloud a favorite children’s book to classrooms.
