Scorpions To Attend UH Game

Eric Chang (left), floor manager of Servco Auto Honolulu, recently presented UH-San Jose State football tickets to all members of the Palama Settlement Pakolea Program Scorpions Pop Warner football team. The 35 members of the Junior Midget division team will now attend the Nov. 20 game at Aloha Stadium. Palama Settlement’s Pakolea Program provides area youths with educational, social, recreational and cultural activities to promote their development into active and positive members of society. Jamba Juice Raises $13,958

Hawaii’s Wackiest Race, the annual Jamba BananaMan 5K Chase, recently raised $13,958 for Hawaii Speed & Quickness, a skills training program designed to teach aspiring athletes to become faster and excel in all types of sports. This year’s a-peeling event drew more than 1,200 adults and 300 keiki who chased life-size bananas around Ala Moana Beach Park. UHM Debate Team Proves Victorious

Members of the UH-Manoa Debate and Forensics Society returned home from Connecticut recently with impressive victories at the Yale Inter-Varsity debate tournament - the nation’s largest and most prestigious debate competition. Undergraduate debaters (from left) Keoni Davey, Daniel Hugo, Maria Deguzman, Eliot St. John, Sameer Pandey and Kyle Dahlin competed against more than 300 world-class debaters, including teams from top debating programs in schools such as Harvard, Stanford and MIT. The Manoa team has been in existence for only two years, and is directed by Department of Speech assistant professor Robert Boller.
