Movies Showtimes Share

Melissa de Leon
Hawaii State Library Children’s Librarian

I>as told to Kerry Miller

Where and with whom did you see the movie?

I went to Ward Theater with another children’s librarian, Tisha Aragaki.

Overall, what did you think?

I thought it was silly, but cute and fun.

What about the acting, did anyone stand out?

Not really. It wasn’t built around the acting, it was built for kids, and for kids I think it will be really enjoyable for them.

Was there a song in the movie’s sound-track that you particularly liked? Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the movie?

Not that I noticed. It was mostly about the visual effects.

What were the visual effects like?

I guess they just did a whole bunch of CGI (computer-generated imagery) stuff, the bedtime story episodes were real elaborate. They had this guinea pig with huge eyes, Buggy. They were based on these bedtime stories that came from Adam Sandler’s character - a bright-red horse, a Roman amphitheater theme with a chase - just sort of completely out there.

Did this movie remind you of any

others?

It feels like just a holiday kids’ movie. Normal life, and then it explodes into this fantasy world.

What is one of your favorite scenes and why?

I thought that all of the bedtime stories were better than the rest of the movie because they were so ridiculous that they’ve got to be funny. I talked to a boy from the Boys & Girls Club, and he said his favorite part was the Roman amphitheater chase when Adam Sandler sings about his golden underpants. That was a kid’s point of view.

On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this movie?

Two and 1/2 stars

To whom would you recommend this movie?

This is best for families with kids elementary age through 12 years old.

What’s new?
