As Told To Melissa Moniz

Where and with whom did you see the movie?

I went with my friend and we saw it at the Ward Consolidated Theatres.

Overall what did you think of the movie?

Actually I thought it was really good. I didn’t really see the previews for it, so I didn’t go in there knowing what this movie is about. But it was really good.

Is there another movie this movie is similar to?

Yes there is a movie, it’s called Hustle and Flow. It takes place in the same setting like a small Southern town and it’s about a girl who struggles. It’s kind of confusing.

Was there a scene that stood out?

Yes there was. Samuel L. Jackson is a blues singer in the movie, and they go to a little nightclub where he does a performance, which is just totally mind-blowing because you would never expect something like that from Samuel L. Jackson. It’s just to show more of his talent. It was really amazing. This movie is about struggle, and when he sings the blues it just totally relates to everything. You could really feel it because part of his story relates to the songs that he sings in the movie. It gives you a better idea of the pain in the movie.

How was the acting in the movie?

Christina Ricci, you would never expect her to play a role like this. She plays a really promiscuous role; she was raped as a child and she plays like the town hussy. Justin Timberlake, I’m not really a fan of his, but I think he did all right.

So what was Justin Timberlake’s role in the movie?

He played a small role. He played the role of Ronnie, who is Christina Ricci’s character Rae’s boyfriend. In the beginning of the movie he leaves to go off to the Army, but then he returns in like a week because he gets discharged. Justin Timberlake, I didn’t expect him to have an Oscar-winning performance. But for the role that he did have, he did pretty well.

To whom would you recommend this film?

I recommend it to the open-minded because this movie is very graphic with sex and drugs, but it has a really good storyline. I don’t recommend for you to go see it with your kids. (laughs)

In a four star rating, with four being the highest, what would you rate it?

I would give it four stars or three and 1/2 stars. It’s a really good movie, but as I said earlier, it’s really graphic.

What’s your favorite movie snack?

Popcorn with the Hurricane mix and a little extra butter.

What’s your favorite movie of all time?

Goonies.

How often do you go to the movies?

I would say two to three times a month.

What’s new?

I’m still employed with 98.5, thank God. My night show is still rockin’ 7-midnight Monday through Friday. For my Kurious Productions promoting we are starting a new party, “Reality” on March 16 at the Living Room. This will be an every Friday event. Every first Saturday in April we’re going to be throwing a party called “Zodiacs” at Lotus Soundbar in Waikiki. And both those parties are 21 and over.
