Donna Shockley
Twilight Car Lady

Where and with whom did you see the movie?

I saw it at the Mililani Consolidated Theatres with my vampire-in-crime, Lori Wright, and our Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) look-alike friend, Cameron Low.

Overall, what did you think?

It was phenomenal! To be honest, it was one of my least favorite books in the series because I’m for Team Edward, not Team Jacob (Taylor Lautner), but from the moment the movie opens up it just sends chills up and down the spine.

I ended up coming out of that movie liking it better than the book. The movie just really impressed me. I truly felt the sense of pain and despair that Bella felt when Edward left her. The story is kind of a melancholy struggle between Edward and his feelings for Bella. The love triangle was also really prevalent in this one.

Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the movie?

The soundtrack was really good, and the score was really great for those who are into instrumental music.

What about the acting? Did anyone stand out?

The girl who played Bella (Kristen Stewart) did much better with her acting in this one than the first one. This story is more about Jacob than it is about Edward, but they did a good job of keeping him in the film and with the special effects.

On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this movie?

★★★★, because I felt like it was a movie that would appeal to all ages and to both sexes. It was just phenomenal.

To whom would you recommend New Moon?

Everyone wants me to say it’s a teenage movie for a teenage crowd, but I feel it appeals to all ages because there are so many adult Twilight fans out there. For people my age, the love story brings you back to that period of time in your life when you were young. It made it interesting for us “die-hard Twi-hards.”

So what does it take to be a “die-hard Twi-hard”?

Well, I’ve already been to see the new movie almost every day it has been out. I’ve seen it in the theater 109 times - and that’s just Twilight. Last night (Nov. 23) I completed my sixth time for New Moon. Each time I see it I enjoy it even more!

So how did you get in to theTwilight Saga?

My daughter read all the books prior to the first movie, and she was going to have me take her to the film. I wasn’t interested because I hadn’t read the books, and I didn’t want to see it. She kept trying to talk me into it, and finally I agreed, and when Edward said “I don’t have the strength to be away from you,” that got me. So now I don’t have the strength to be away from all things Twilight (laughs). It actually changed my life. It made me start to feel young again and to laugh and not take things so seriously - to not grow old, in a sense. People forget to laugh, and this brought back the youthfulness in my life.

You’re known as the “Twilight Car Lady.” Tell me more.

I drive a black Saturn Ion and it’s got “I run with vampires” on the front and Twilight logos down the side. It also has quotes from the movie and the book on the outside, and it’s decorated on the inside as well. My car ended up drawing people who want to take pictures and leave notes on the window and whatnot. Now it’s no longer my car, but everyone’s car. Now people call and want the “Twilight car” and the Edward look-alike at their parties, and so I let Cameron do that. I just love making people happy. We do appearances and birthday parties, and we’ll probably be in some of the parades around Christmas time. We also have extensive collections that we show, and we also have a fan club.Google “Twilight Car Lady Hawaii” and you’ll find me right away!
