Jay-Z wants to build a

SHAWN COREY Carter aka Jay-Z is the president and CEO of Def Jam, founder of Roc-A-Fella, Rocawear, the first non-athlete to have a line of Reeboks, part-owner of the Nets and the current squeeze of Beyonce (whew)! He’s looking to build a casino in Vegas based on his 40/40 club format.

GAMBLING ON the Internet is confusing at the least ... is it or is it not legal? Ex-Isle resident and the world’s foremost authority on gaming law, professor I. Nelson Rose, has always said the laws are unclear except for sports betting (an absolute no-no). Well, now Washington State has passed a bill making it a felony (in the state of Washington) to gamble on the Internet. To date, it’s the only state to make it a crime and a felony to place a bet on the Internet, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. For me, the issue remains one of self-regulation and lack of oversight. Frankly, I don’t trust the Costa Rican government to regulate these sites to ensure that we get a fair wager.

secret to winning Megabucks

THE NEVADA Megabucks is celebrating its 20th birthday and should be about $21 million by the time you read this (making it the seventh largest jackpot ever) Because the jackpot is considered overdue more people are playing the machines, so the jackpot is growing faster. The only two-time Megabucks winner, Elmer Sherwin, says, “there’s really no secret to winning Megabucks. I always tell people you gotta play to win! And always play the full amount ($3) or don’t play at all.” The last Megabucks Jackpot was hit at the Aladdin for $11.9 million. Get the latest Megabucks jackpots at www.KimosVegas.com

CONSTRUCTION delays for the new Phantom of the Opera Theater at the Venetian has delayed the preview shows (where they sell tickets at a discount to test the show before a live audience). Previews will start on June 12 and the show will officially open June 23. Every song from the original Broadway show is included in this 95-minute presentation.

THIS WEEK on Kimo’s Vegas on OC16 we hang downtown at the legendary Fitzgerald’s with the bartenders who spit fire, the chicken who plays Tic-Tac-Toe, sample our favorite omiyage and more!

BY THE WAY, the Fitz is also hosting the International Folk Festival, June 23-25. The festival features food and craft vendors and dance troupes from around the world (including Hawaii). Check out the 3rd Street stage.

IF YOU’RE in Vegas for the Fourth of July ... do check out www.KimosVegas.com for a schedule of the city’s firework tributes.
