WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

THE HOME of the first two-time Megabucks winner Elmer Sherwin is also home to the latest Megabucks winner. The Cannery’s second Megabucks winner in nine months is a 64-year-old Las Vegas retiree who (wisely) wishes to remain anonymous. The woman won $20,519,025 on her fourth pull ($12) on the Megabucks machine.

I GUESS we no mo nuff kultcha ... less than four months after opening, the Las Vegas version of Hairspray joins Avenue Q and becomes the second Broadway-to-Vegas show to close. Mamma Mia, on the other hand, continues to pack ‘em in ... perhaps some Abba music would have helped?

GEORGE CLOONEY’S dream to build an upscale Vegas casino/hotel has gone the way of Avenue Q and Hairspray. But don’t feel too sorry for George. He and his partners bought the property for $90 million and sold the 25-acre site for $202 million.

But George has a philanthropic use for his profits, donating all of it to the African Debt Relief Project.

MAXIM, the men’s magazine is lending its fame to a $1.2 billion project just north of Circus Circus.

The Maxim Hotel Casino will feature a 60,000-square-foot casino, 2,300 rooms, 3,000-seat concert venue, pool, spa and all the Vegas you’ve come to expect.

According to Maxim‘s Barry Pincus, it’ll be upscale, sexy, flirtatious and fun.

THIS WEEK on Kimo’s Vegas we hang at the tallest building this side of the Mississippi ... the Stratosphere. See firsthand the best views in Vegas from the Top of the World. We’ll try to hold on to our lunch as we check out the thrill rides on the top of the Strat and chat with Kauai grad Dale Matsumura. Get the exact show time at www.KimosVegas.com.

PERHAPS you heard about the 350 mayors (including Mufi) from across America who gathered in Las Vegas for the 74th annual Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors. Some of the topics discussed: rising gas prices, energy crisis, immigration reform, Internet predators, the Asian flu (otherwise known as the put your head between your legs flu) and much more. It wasn’t all work and no play ... Wayne Newton, The Chippendales, Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles Love and more donated entertainment.

WHERE DO the Las Vegans go for vacation? According to Orbitz the online travel agency, Chicago is the No. 1 spot. AAA says the No. 1 driving spot is the Grand Canyon. Others say Hawaiian cruises and SoCal are the top spots. One thing for sure ... us locals love to “go Vegas”!
