The Wynn has to bring in about $2 million
a day just to break even

WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas … This week on Kimo’s Vegas, the radio show, we’ll be talking with Nancy Marcellus from Lawry’s The Prime Rib (easily one of the best prime rib eateries on earth), Matthew Hileman from the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, and Jimmy Foster, the marketing guy from Urban Village, the 50-acre, $1 billion development six minutes from the strip. Join us Thursday at 9 a.m. or for the replay Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Sports Radio KKEA 1420 AM.

THE WYNN Las Vegas just released its numbers for the first 34 days of operation. Exactly how much kala did it make? More than $140.9 million (that’s in U.S. dollars)! And it includes $15.4 million in comps! Each slot machine made an average of $304 per day, and each table game grossed an average of $9,244 per day (so that’s where all my money went). According to folks in the know, The Wynn has to do about $2 million a day just to break even … I’m not good at math, but it looks like it made a little money.

FOR THE FIRST time since it began in 1970, the World Series Of Poker is not at Binion’s, it’ll be at the Rio. However, Mayor Oscar Goodman asked Harrah’s to keep the final two days at the Horseshoe in celebration of the centennial. The prize moolah is expected to exceed $100 million this year. For the latest on the WSP or to buy WSP gear (not the same as being there, but close), go to WorldSeriesOfPoker.com.

GUESS WHO’S buying “plate lunch”? Samuel Kaeo Jr. of Hilo and Helen Nishida of Ewa Beach both hit the 10 Times Pay machine for $10,000, and Gwendolyn Higgins of Waimanalo hit a Straight Flush on the Pai Gow table winning $4,000 at the Cal!

MOST EVERYONE who’s played at Shadow Creek agrees that if there’s a golf course in heaven, it would be like Shadow Creek … or if there is a golfer’s heaven on earth, it would be Shadow Creek. Where else can you see Michael Jordan, Dr. J, James Woods, George Clooney or a host of other celeb golfers on any given day? … Did you know that this famous course is the home turf for UNLV golfers? Another reason to encourage Junior to be a Rebel (they get to bring guests).

THE DOLLAR Megabucks is over $14 million … the last time it hit was at the Palms on Halloween for $13.6 million.

CONGRATS TO the folks at Sam’s Town (the Boyd property named after its founder). They have been voted “Da Besess” in 34 categories by the readers of Casino Player magazine. They took the top honors in Best Overall Hotel, Best Overall Casino, Best Players Club and Luckiest Casino! They are targeted more toward the Vegas local, but when I was there a few years ago it had some Hawaii locals, too.
