WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas… The Players Edge!

Keith and Nicole
Keith and Nicole

Keith Urban makes his first post-rehab concert at the Mandalay Bay. The “Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy Thing” tour kicks off June 9 ... sure bet his wife Nicole Kidman will be in the house.

$19 million ... that’s the MGM box office gross for the Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight on May 5. The event sold out in less than 30 hours. Lucky for us get scalpers and pay-per view.

What happens when you win a pile of cash and welch on your partner? You settle out of court ... After winning the 2006 World Series of Poker, a judge awarded Jamie Gold only half of his $12,000,000 winnings when Bruce Crispin Leyser filed suit claiming they were 50/50 partners. The voice mail Jamie left on Crispin’s cell phone promising to pay him his half, probably played a prominent role in the settlement.

More locals invade the strip ... the Concert King of the Philippines, local boy Martin Nievera will be appearing regularly at Magician Steve Wyrick’s Entertainment Center at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood. The show will feature tunes from Broadway to Bublé and hits from some of the 32 albums he’s recorded.

The Hard Rock Casino Hotel was host to the 10th annual Interactive Achievement video game awards. Winning eight of its 10 nominations including “Overall Game of the Year” and Console Game of the Year, was the futuristic action-horror game Gears of War. Another Bill Gates coup, the game is only available on the Xbox 360 platform.

Too many bans ... no mo ‘nough sand. How ironic is it that the Las Vegas Sands Corp., owners of the Venetian (Las Vegas and Macau), has to pay 30 percent more to import sand to build the Marina Bay Sands. Singapore’s first casino resort will have to import the sand from somewhere other than Indonesia because they banned the export of sand last week.

Ken Rewick: flying high
Ken Rewick: flying high

Congrats to Punahou and UH grad Ken Rewick, he’s the new VP of flight operations at Hawaiian Airlines. That makes him responsible for the pilots, crew, pilot flight training, the system operations control center and more.

OK, ladies, now you can have your hair done by Michael Boychuck, the guy who colors Britney Spears, Paris and Nicky Hilton, and Kirsten Dunst. His new salon called the Qua Spa is now open at Caesars Palace.

“Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s the fattest city of them all”? Las Vegas! That’s according to Men Fitness Magazine’s 9th annual Fattest Cities in America report. It seems Sin City’s favorite sin may be gluttony, not gambling, greed, pride or lust (OK, I cheated - gambling’s not one of the big, bad seven). Barely making this year’s top fittest cit-ties is Honolulu, dropping from 2nd to 10th.

So far even aliens and show-girls have not been able to save the Las Vegas monorail ... ridership is at an all-time low - off 30 percent in 2006 while officials predicted an 11 percent increase. The system was built for $650 million. The monorail hopes to acquire another $500 million to expand its service to McCarran Airport. Perhaps they should put slot machines on board. Hopefully our rail will fare better.
