Sarah Harding before
the makeup

Welcome to Kimo’s Vegas… this week on the radio we talk story with Kauai born, Punahou High School grad Sarah Harding. She is one of the star athletes/performers in the brand new Cirque du Soleil show KA! Is it cool to hit her up for tickets when you’re in town? Listen in Thursday at 9 a.m. and again on Friday at 6:30 p.m. on KKEA 1420AM to find out.

Ever wonder how many slot machines live in the State of Nevada? Try 176,589.

The world’s richest sporting event is getting richer. No, not auto racing, football, baseball or basketball … it’s POKER! Funny, I thought for it to be a sport you had to run or at least have an occasional brisk walk (like in golf). With a total of 45 events, the 36th annual World Series of Poker is huge. They expect the prize money to exceed $100 million this year!

If you haven’t been to Vegas in a while the proliferation of the penny slot machines will surprise you. Why are all the casinos jumping into the penny machine fire? The casinos have finally figured out that people are willing to play their daily or session money chasing a big payout. Players feel better about losing if they get four hours of play instead of 40 minutes from the same kala. These machines are designed to give you more playing time with several bonus rounds and increased entertainment value. I saw a 50-line, 15-coin machine (that’s $ 7.50 per spin) — not exactly pocket change.

Remember Santana at the Crater Festival? How about the seven sold out Journey shows at the Blaisdell? Now you can see the guy who sang the songs for Santana and Journey, Greg Rollie — at the Cannery July 30.

Jimmy Buffett’s “A Salty Piece of Land Tour” docks at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Oct. 22 and 29. Who wouldn’t like to see Jake Shimabukuro open for him in Vegas? Eh, Jake, tell Gramma pick one machine for us. (The last time she was there, she won $8.9 million at the Fremont).

Elton John renewed his deal at Caesars Palace for another 75 shows that’ll take him through 2008.

The Pensky, Wynn Ferrari & Maserati dealership gets about 1,800 gawkers per day — at $15 a head. Most never buy a car but they do buy a lotta stuff at the Ferrari logo store. Did you know that prior to the Wynn dealership opening the 220 registered Ferrari owners in Nevada had to ship their cars to Beverly Hills, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Salt Lake City for service?

Ray Romano is at the Mirage

Everybody loves Raymond, and if you missed him at home, check him out in Vegas: Ray Romano is at the Danny Gans Theater at the Mirage in August, September and October. Expect to pay about double what Uncle Tom Moffatt charged at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.

Not that you need an excuse to go Vegas but … in October the Kailua High class of ‘85 and the Castle High class of ’58 are feeling lucky.
