WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson

MICHAEL JACKSON homeless! The King of Pop has moved out of his 10-bedroom Vegas mansion, electing to let the million-dollar lease expire because of concerns about insufficient security. He can always stay at my house ... my kids are all over 14.

GUERNSEY’S AUCTION house had to return 35 items to Janet and 23 items to Michael Jackson. The items were withheld from last month’s auction after the Jacksons filed suit. Some of the stuff Michael will get back (I’m not making this up) includes his collection of Three Stooges photos.

EVERYTHING IN THE New Frontier will go under the auctioneer’s hammer starting July 17. It is the same firm that handled the Stardust’s liquidation - Great American will be doing the honors ... the hotel’s most notable memorabilia is the

mechanical bull that was host to many okoles ... If you’ve ever been in Gilley’s, you’ll remember the phrase “Cowgirls Ride Free.”

BINION’S GAMBLING Hall & Hotel was sold to TLC Casino Enterprises (the same folks who own the Four Queens). How much does it cost to own a downtown casino that has seen better days? $32 million cash.

IT’S THAT TIME of year again ... when people from all over the world - more than 100 different countries - get together for the World Shoe Association Show July 30 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The WSA event is the largest trade show of its kind, featuring more than 1,600 exhibitors ... that’s a lotta toe jam. Meanwhile, at the Venetian you’ll find more than 350 high-end footwear, handbag and jewelry designers. It’s a great time to be in Vegas if shoes and bags are your thing because all the stores will have the latest designs on display - and, more importantly, on sale.

LAST WEEK the Las Vegas Sands Corp. began accepting applications for 4,000 jobs at its new hotel, the Palazzo. Even crazier than the number of job openings is the number of people who are expected to apply - 50,000. The $2.6 billion hotel is scheduled to open by year’s end. For more details, call the hotel’s employment center (702) 414-5627, or visit us online at www.KimosVegas.com for the link.

CONSIDERING THE NEW casinos and casino expansions, Deutsche Bank analysts predict that the Las Vegas casino industry will need to fill some 113,500 positions by 2012.

MORE WORKERS mean more kids, and Clark County School officials are scrambling to hire at least 1,300 teachers for the next school year.

CONGRATS TO Ed and Rae Nishioka from the Great Harvest Bread Company - they were married at the Bellagio last week ...

Gary ‘Big Daddy’ Goodridge

BATTLE AT BELLAGIO is the name of the K1 Event happening Aug. 11. The eight-man elimination tourney features Gary “Big Daddy” Goodridge, Rick Cheek, Imani Lee, Patrick Berry and Hiraku Hori from Japan.

THE TODAY SHOW did some investigative reporting, and the No. 1 thing we steal ... er ... borrow or inherit from our hotel rooms is washcloths. According to the American Hotel and Lodging Association, guests walk off with $100 million in flat-screen TVs, toiletries, towels and washcloths annually. Makes the roll of TP I took on my last trip seem manini.
