WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas! This week on the radio we’re talking story with gambling expert and author of The American Casino Guide, Steve Bourie, and the executive chef at Craftsteak, Chris Albrecht, who proudly serves Hawaiian grass-fed beef at the best steak restaurant in North America.

THE ANDRE Agassi Grand Slam concert for children’s charities is set for Oct. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It stars Usher, Duran Duran, Mary J. Blige and George Lopez.

LADIES (and gentlemen who wear women’s shoes) — great news! The best time to buy shoes in Vegas is … during the shoe convention, ’cause all the manufacturers make deals with the stores to have all their stuff prominently displayed and conveniently on sale. About 35,000 people in the biz will attend the World Shoe Association Convention which starts Aug. 4 at the Mandalay Bay.

THE CHAR SIU Bau is on George Fernandez of Mililani. He hit the Big Time Pay Machine for $6,000 at the Main Street.

Jay Leno will be onstage at the
Danny Gans Theater Sept. 9

TONIGHT SHOW host Jay Leno takes his act on the road to the Danny Gans Theater at the Mirage Sept. 9. Does it seem like he’s been hosting the Tonight Show for 13 years now?

LOOK FOR the Golden Nugget execs in town for their annual Players Appreciation party at the end of the month. THE OFFICIAL Star Trek Convention is coming to the Las Vegas Hilton (home of Star Trek, The Exhibition) Aug. 11. Here’s a small list of the confirmed celebs: Admirals, Commanders and Captains Kirk, Pickard, Janeway and Sisko (William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew and Avery Brooks), Data (Brent Spiner), Worf (Michael Dorn), T’Pol (Jolene Blalock), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), LaForge (LeVar Burton). All together now … energize!

LOOKING AT expensive cars can make a gearhead hungry. The Wynn Las Vegas Buffet is quickly becoming the buffet in the City of Buffets. What kinda dinner does $30 get you in the most expensive structure ever built in the history of man? Most buffets have an omelet chef — here you’ll find a wok chef to make Chinese noodle soup just for you. Shrimp cocktail, ahi poke, smoked salmon, crab legs, rack of lamb, sea bass and much, much more. Perhaps that explains why the lines are so long getting into The Buffet.

THE SHRINERS are famous for two things — clowns and providing free, excellent medical care for children around the world (we’re lucky enough to have our own Honolulu Shriners Hospital). “Lance Burton and Friends” is an annual benefit show where all monies raised go to the Zelzah Shrine Temple in Vegas. Check it out July 31 at the Lance Burton Theater in the Monte Carlo, or you can make a donation online at shrinershq.org. Either way you’ll feel good (maybe even lucky).

WOLFGANG PUCK’s latest restaurant “Riva” has opened in the Venetian on the fourth floor Pool Deck. It’s the first breakfast service for the Puck-man — try the lemon blueberry pancakes with Vermont maple syrup, then try one of Wolfgang’s famous pizzas for lunch or dinner. As usual the food’s ono and reasonable.

THE MOANALUA class of 1975 celebrates its 30th at the Stardust Aug. 11. E-mail Calvin Shimomura .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or Miyo Watanabe .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to join in.
