WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
DOUBLE DIPPIN’ ... Beyonce performs at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Dec. 30, and at Club 40/40 with boyfriend Jay-Z on New Year’s Eve.
IS BEYONCE a porn star? No, it’s not one of those photo shoots she did before she was famous ... it’s what some residents are saying about a Las Vegas radio station billboard. More than 100 residents have signed a petition saying they found the singer’s image obscene. Station officials say they chose the picture from publicity shots, and city representatives say that the billboard meets all local codes. It’s OK for brothels to advertise in the newspaper, slappers to line the Strip and let hookers in the casino, but a singer in a bikini is a no-no? Help me out here.
IT’S THAT TIME of the year again ... it seems like Las Vegas celebrates Halloween twice a year. In addition to the end of October trick-or-treating we’re all accustomed to ... it’s the freak show all over again when The Adult Entertainment Expo happens at the Mandalay Bay Jan. 10, and it is open to the public (for a price).
KIMO’S VEGAS SHOW TIP ... the award-winning Monty Python’s SPAMALOT has a buyone-get-one-free ticket deal ... Starring John O’Hurley (Seinfeld), the show is funny (as in funny ha-ha, not funny kine). Call the box office at 702-770-WYNN and give ‘em the discount code “Runalot” for the deal.
ALL-AROUND NICE person and gaming author Jean “The Frugal Gambler” Scott has a new book with Marissa Chen titled
Tax Help for Gamblers. Inside you’ll find lots of valuable information on record-keeping, win-loss statements, gambling logs and more ... check it out at your favorite bookstore.
WHAT DO Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and four-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, record producer and actor Justin Timberlake have in common? Timberlake becomes the 14th celebrity in the history of the PGA Tour to host an event. The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is part of the fall series starting next year and continuing through 2013. If you can’t be there in October, look for it on the Golf Channel.
ACCORDING TO the U.S. Department of Education, of all the 50 states, Nevada produces the least number of high school graduates. Seems the keiki are more interested in a $60K a year valet job than finishing high school.
HITTING THE CAL Video Poker machines ... and joining the list of folks we like rub for good luck are Mignonne Min of Honolulu ($3,427), Pat Mendiola of Makawao ($4,000), Virginia Kawakami of Kaneohe ($4,000), James Fukuda ($6,000), Lorna Young ($6,716) and Judy Belisario of Wahiawa ($7,121)!
CLEAN AND GREEN is the mantra at Boyd Gaming ... the company is opening a state-ofthe-art, 100,000-square-foot laundry that’s also getting an environmental accreditation. Employing 70 people, the facility will do 50,000 pounds of laundry a day, and when Echelon Place opens the load will increase to 200,000 pounds per day! Recycled water and special detergents help the company save water, money and the environment.
THE BELLAGIO Gallery of Fine Arts is displaying more than 30 ceramic pieces made by the master himself ... but hurry, “In the Master’s Hands: Picasso’s Ceramics” ends Jan. 14.
