Bill Gates: turned away
Bill Gates: turned away

WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

A FEW WEEKS AGO in Las Vegas, Microsoft visionary and creator Bill Gates delivered his final Consumer Electronics Show keynote speech as the company’s CEO. The city is always full of rich guys, but the number of folks with lotsa money seems to double per square foot during the annual show. Almost everywhere he goes Mr. Microsoft is easily the king of big bucks, but sometimes even elephant dollars can’t buy you love ... After waiting patiently in line at the exclusive Charlie Palmers Restaurant in the Four Seasons, Gates asked the hostess for a table for one. Not recognizing the computer czar, she told him there would be a 45-minute wait to be seated (because he didn’t have a reservation). He politely thanked her and left. The hostess was a little embarrassed when the next guy in line explained that she just blew off the richest guy in America.

HE’S NOT THE ONLY geek to score ... Justin Long (the “I’m a Mac” guy) spent the weekend in Vegas with (actress) Drew Barrymore. The couple hung out with the Pussy Cat Dolls and celebrated his brother’s birthday ... OK, he’s not really a geek, he only plays one on TV.

IN THE LATEST Zagat Guide to the Best of Las Vegas, the most expensive round of golf will set you back five big ones (not including side wagers and the 19th hole). But not all courses are created equal, even though they charge the same ... Shadow Creek and Cascata are both rated a 29 out of 30, but at the Wynn Las Vegas the same $500 is only good for 25 of 30. The guide’s readers’ favorite course is Reflection Bay at Lake Las Vegas - a bargain at $295 a round, it’s rated 27 out of possible score of 30.
