WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

THE MONTE CARLO won’t be reopening after the fire that damaged the top five floors until they can replace or remove the exterior facade that was badly burnt. After the fire started, about 5,000 guests and another 1,000 employees were safely evacuated with only minor injuries reported. Some players refused to leave their machines when the alarm sounded (this is a true story), telling security that their machines were hot. Employees will continue to receive paychecks if the hotel does not reopen in the next 30 days. If your Vegas plans included a reservation, tickets to Master Magician Lance Burton, or dinner at Diablo’s or Andre’s, cancellations are being made a few days at a time.

AT THE CASINO REGINA in Canada, employees loading a self-redemption/change kiosk made a lotta folks happy when they put $20 bills in the $5 bill slot. Patrons who put a $20 bill in the machine got four $20s (instead of four $5s) back. The machine made the $80 for $20 exchange for 11-and-a-half days, until someone notified casino personnel. The transactions varied from $300 to $11,000, and police are still trying to determine if there was a crime committed.

KIMO’S VEGAS TIP: “The Gamblers Special” is an unadvertised 24/7 special at Mr. Lucky’s in the Hard Rock, where $7.77 will get you a steak and shrimp dinner.

IN 2006, “The Big Game” (the one being played Sunday) grossed $94.5 million in legal sports bets at Nevada’s 176 sports books.Last year, the game’s big number dropped to $93.1 million. This year, Las Vegas sports book execs are hoping the Patriots’ perfect season will bring them record profits and a record gross of more than $100 million ... By the way: The single largest Super Bowl bet I’ve ever heard of was $5 million with no points.

RAN INTO Uncle Tom Moffatt, and he’s busier than the proverbial bee with Melissa Ethridge (March 7), Lea Salonga (March 8) and Margaret Cho (March 9),with even more surprises on the way in ‘08. The controversial and amusing comedian Cho’s world-wide “Beautiful” tour also will be stopping in The Pearl at the Palms March 29.

THE OLDEST shrimp cocktail (in a manner of speaking) is at The Golden Gate. The casino tradition began there in 1959 as the 50 cent shrimp cocktail ... almost 50 years later, the refreshing delicacy will set you back only 99 cents.

THE UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS asked 1,000 people if they would gamble online if it were legal in Nevada ... experts were surprised to learn only 3.7 percent said they would play online ... Duh, it’s so much more fun to play in a casino

THE WORLD PREMIERE of Rambo 4 was held last week at Planet Hollywood. On hand: the movie’s star, Sylvester Stallone, along with buddy Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a bunch of folks who paid more than $200 for a ticket on eBay!

ABOUT AS RARE as someone hitting the Megabucks jackpot, a three-story penthouse apartment has gone on the market. Located in the Sky Las Vegas, it’s got everything you’d expect when shelling out $4.5 million, including an elevator (hey, it is three stories), four bedrooms, a pro kitchen, a master bathroom that overlooks the Strip and views that the building is named after. Picasso and furniture not included ... check out the video at www.KimosVegas.com.

THE MAIN STREET KENO was really lucky for Paulette Huckso of Honolulu - she won $3,144, and Kalisto Galon of Waianae won $4,500.
