WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
LATER THIS MONTH look for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson around the Fergusons Motel at 1028 Fremont St. He’ll be filming the remake of Disney’s Escape to Witch Mountain called Race to Witch Mountain with co-stars Cheech Marin and Carla Gugino.
IN THE WORDS of Spock: “I have been, and ever shall be, your friend. Live long and prosper.” But our friend may not be long for Las Vegas. The owners of “Star Trek: The Experience” say there are no plans to renew the exhibit at the Hilton. The final decision will be made by the end of May and the closing may come as early as late fall. No word on the fate of the annual Trekkie convention.
NOW YOU DON’T have to leave Hawaii to work in a Vegas club ... Open auditions for performers (dancers, aerialists, etc.) for the nightlife staff of the new ultra lounge and club Waikiki Nei and Level 4 are happening at the Sheraton Waikiki Friday, May 23, 1 p.m.
THE AMERICAN IDOL Live 2008 Tour hits the Thomas and Mack Center July 5. The tour will feature this season’s top 10 - David Archuleta, Jason Castro, David Cook, Kristy Lee Cook, Chikezie Eze, Michael Johns, Ramiele Malubai, Syesha Mercado, Carly Smithson and Brooke White. The 49-date 29-state tour is not scheduled to stop in Hawaii.
MADONNA’S “Sticky and Sweet” tour starts right after her big 5-0 and is up to 60 stops around the world, including a Nov. 8 show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The last time the diva hit the road her tour grossed more than $260 million - the highest grossing of any solo female artist.
FEATURED IN the June issue of Playboy magazine are the girls of MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris.
WHEN THE $8.4 billion MGM Mirage City Center opens next year, it’ll include a 500,000-square-foot retail and entertainment area called “The Crystals.” If you like your bling in baby blue boxes, just look for the 85-foot-high Tiffany and Co. entrance on the Las Vegas Strip.
YOU CAN SAVE 10 percent off your entire purchase of Las Vegas memorabilia and omiyage from Flashbacks (next to the Bose store) in the Las Vegas Outlet Center by mentioning the owner’s name (ex-isle resident) Dewey Rose.
VEGAS NUMBERS ... The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority says the city hosted 431 fewer conventions and 6.6 percent fewer conventioneers, while visitor volume was down 1 percent compared to March last year.
EVEN MORE exclusive than Simon Cowell’s (American Idol) $1 million Bugatti Veyron is the Lamborghini Reventon. Only 20 will be made (plus one for the Lamborghini museum) and of those 19 have already been sold. The 650 horsepower V12 is so fast, the instrument panel includes a G-Force meter. If you’re interested, the remaining Lambo (No. 1/20) has arrived in Vegas and is expected to sell for close to $2 million ... proving that the economy is only tough for some of us.
THE LAMBORGHINI Las Vegas also is hosting the work of local boy (Kaimuki) photographer Robert Knight. His work is a who’s who of rock ‘n’ roll, having shot everyone from Billy Idol, Eric Clapton, Van Halen and Los Lonely Boys to Led Zeppelin, including local artists from Aunty Genoa and C&K to Pops Pahinui.
