You can catch Destiny’s Child at the
Mandalay Bay in late August

WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas! Thursday at 9 a.m. and Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Sports Radio 1420, Bob Dancer, professional gambler and video poker expert, tells how he wins $1 million a year playing video poker … what’s the best comp he ever got? A new Mercedes, and that was one of six cars the casinos gave him.

CONGRATS TO Satpaul and Ben Sahni, proprietors of Gaylord India restaurant in the Rio. The N.Y. Post says it is one of the top five eateries in Vegas!

HOW SLOT machines work, a nationally syndicated gaming columnist was explaining, is that slot machines have one random number generator for each reel, so what you see on the first reel is picked totally at random and unrelated to what you see on the second and third reels. That’s not the way it works. The random number generator selects the outcome of all the reels from a menu of predetermined decisions, for example, if you and I were making a slot machine with 100 decisions (combinations of reels) and 10 of those outcomes were winners and 90 decisions paid nothing. The random number generator constantly cycles through all 100 outcomes in random order several thousand times a second. Because the above example has a 90 no pays, over a long period of time the players will win only 10 percent of all the games played. On a real machine there are more than 100 decisions, but the math is still the same. In general a penny machine holds (keeps) around 20 to 15 cents (15 percent) of every dollar inserted, nickels 15 to 10 cents (10 percent), quarters 12 to 8 cents and dollars 10 to 6 cents.

THE STUFF (magazine) Casino Weekend is happening next week. Look for even more pretty faces to adorn the Palms. In addition to the Phat Farm/Baby Phat Fashion show and Sony Entertainment Antonia Model Search Finals, there’ll be celebrity poker tournaments, pool parties and more of The Stuff we read about in the magazine.

THE THUNDER from Down Under guys (Australia’s all male revue) are appearing at Merlin’s Theater in the Excalibur at 8:30 and 10:30 all month. It’s the perfect girls’ night out break from the casino.

LOOKING FOR something different on your next trip? How about a Lake Mead cruise? Year-round, the Desert Princess, a three-deck Mississippi-style riverboat, cruises the sparkling waters of Lake Mead (a 110- mile-long lake). They do champagne brunch, dinner and dinner/ dance cruises.

TOBY KEITH, Billboard Music Awards 2004 Top Country Artist, owns a string of country western-themed restaurants. His latest is now open at Harrah’s and is the only place in Vegas (besides Auntie Joann Hanawahine’s house) that you can get a grilled baloney sandwich.

AMERICAN IDOLS Live is at the Thomas & Mack Center Aug. 18. Tickets on eBay are selling for $50 to $100 each. And Destiny’s Child is at the Mandalay Bay Aug. 26.

WHAT TO expect at the new Hooters Hotel & Casino (the old San Remo hotel)? Look for the BIGGEST Hooters restaurant in the country, Nippers Pool Bar (I’m not making this up), The Bait Shoppe, a fresh sushi bar, and a 30,000-square-foot Hooters-themed casino.
