TWO SUBSIDIARIES of Dubai World (co-owners of the MGM Mirage CityCenter) have just bought a fifth of Cirque du Soleil. Founder Guy Laliberté says the cash will accelerate Cirque projects all over the globe, including a 1,800-seat theater in the city. More than 10 million people see a Cirque show every year - that’s about $700 million in ticket sales. The five resident Vegas shows (O, Mystere, Zumanity, KA! and LOVE) employ more than 1,500 people, and two new shows, Believe and Elvis, are currently in production.

THE CITY OF Henderson and the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club’s 18th annual Prince Jonah Kuhio Ho’olaule’a Pacific Islands Festival is happening Sept. 13.
