WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
MEDIA MOGUL Jay-Z is rumored to be selling half of his Vegas 40/40 club to his landlord Sheldon Adleson’s LV Sands Corp. The Venetian/Palazzo parent company plans to add a world-class sports book to the sports-themed nightclub, and to expand the 40/40 brand to Europe, in a deal that proves the Rock-A-Fella is “the only rapper still gettin’ money in a drought.”
SISTERS WHO BATHE TOGETHER ... Now open at the Palazzo: LAVO, Latin for “to bathe or cleanse.” It’s the latest lounge restaurant concept by the people who brought us Tao, the Venetian’s Asian bistro with the lady in the bathtub.
CONGRATS TO WAYNE BRADY, who’s celebrating his first anniversary at the Venetian. It’s a great show that features his super-fast wit, singing, dancing and mimicking. Look for his first CD, A Long Time Coming, at stores starting Sept. 16.
TIRED OF THOSE TSA inspections, waiting in line at the airport, 3-ounce bottles and the other hassles involved in air travel? A new company called Lucky Jet has door-to-door service - from your door to your hotel room door with a private jet ride in between. The company specializes in shared private jet charters to casino destinations. While it’s a lot cheaper than buying your own private G5, a one-way ticket starts at $2,999. If cost is not an object, call them at 1-480-452-5655.
THE NEWEST SHOW on the Strip, Raw Talent Live, opens next month (Sept. 12) at the Sahara. ND, the creator, producer and director, says “The show will transport audiences from their world to a virtual world that crosses the line between real and surreal, incorporating raw emotion with adrenaline-packed interactive performances ... It will change the way Las Vegas experiences entertainment.”
HOT VEGAS PROMOTIONS ... Discover A New World of Jackpots at The Orleans. The Columbus Day video poker tourney pays all the way down to 150th, with first place bringing home $10,000. Call George Oishi’s office (808-847-4915) to get in on the fun.
NEXT MONTH the Stratosphere has a $30,000 blackjack tournament, where you win $100,000 if you’re dealt and ace/king of diamonds on the final table. To play, call Dale Matsumura 702-380-7777.
THERE’S A LOTTA money in mattresses ... Rod Stewart performed for the 12,000 attendees of the Las Vegas World Market’s 2008 Summer Furniture Market. Do You Think I’m Sexy?‘s free concert was sponsored by the Serta Mattress company.
BY NOW, someone has probably e-mailed you one of those ID Quizzes ... Maybe you got the Local Grindz Quiz or the Hawaii Celebrity Quiz or even one of the NCAA Helmet Quizzes. Now totaling 60 (with more on the way) the quizzes are the labor of love (he makes no money from them) for ‘87 Kaiser grad Tracy Nishibun. His latest brain-teaser is about Las Vegas hotels (you can get it and more information at http://www.KimosVegas.com). I was surprised how difficult it was to ID all 50 hotels, but if you ace this quiz, his next challenge is Vegas poker chips.
VEGAS SUPER-LONGSHOT ... Downtown Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman wants to build an 80,000-seat arena and make the city the permanent host of the NFL’s Super Bowl and Monday Night Football.
MAYORAL TRIVIA ... Did you know Mayor Oscar Goodman is the only politician in history to have a gin endorsement deal?
