Jay Z at the 40/40 Club press conference

WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

SHAWN CARTER has left the building ... With diametrically opposed clientele, the Sands Corp and the 40/40 Club have decided to go separate ways. Neither side is talking about the settlement, but some believe it took more than $44 million for Jay-Z to walk. If you’ve been to the Palazzo’s current undersized sports book, you’d probably concur that it will build a bigger book in place of the club.

NO ONE HAS MORE bad luck in Vegas than the founder of Death Row Records, Suge Knight, who was arrested and released after he posted bail in Las Vegas. Police say after he and a woman left the Spearmint Rhino, they started arguing in his Escalade. He allegedly hit her in the head and she grabbed the wheel, causing the car to hit the curb. She tried to run away when he allegedly beat her in the parking lot. Knight has a history of run-ins with the law, including being with Tupac Shakur when he was killed in 1996.

VEGAS iPHONE-goers will be all smiles with a new app called Vegas Mate. The interactive guide uses its knowledge of your location to suggest ratings and reviews of hotels, restaurants and nightlife. Unlike a paper guide, it’s updated frequently and has info on tipping, an interactive map, the $20 bill trick and more.

THERE ARE MANY WAYS to implement the $20 bill trick (there’s even a website dedicated to it). The front desk clerk has some leeway when assigning you a room. They won’t be able to get you into the presidential suite when you’re payin’ $49 a night or get you upgraded when the hotel is hosting a major convention, but they can get you a high floor, Strip view or even a mini suite. It doesn’t work every time, but you can find out more about the trick and Vegas Mate at my website: http://www.KimosVegas.com.

Oscar De La Hoya will battle the Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao Dec. 6

MSM TRAVEL has just released its top ways to spend time and save money in Vegas ... At No. 5: the Conservatory at the Bellagio. If you haven’t seen the current Summer Garden Party Show, it closes Sept. 6. Next on its list is the Aquarium at the Mirage - with more than 1,000 fish, it’s almost better than watching TV. The Lion Habitat is next at No. 3, followed by the Fountains of the Bellagio. But the No Ka Oi nod went to local favorite, The Fremont Street Experience.

DEC. 6 IS THE DAY of Oscar De La Hoya’s last fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. After much negotiation (and a 70/30 split) the most-celebrated and recognized athlete in the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao, and the box office king will battle each other on his final fight card. Pay-per-view for this match is anticipated to be the biggest ever, surpassing last year’s De La Hoya/Mayweather matchup that was seen by more than 2.4 million people.

IF YOU LIKE A LITTLE VINO with your rib eye, check out Wine Spectator magazine’s 2008 Award of Excellence winner. For the fourth year in a row, Las Vegas steakhouse Envy at the Renaissance has brought home the gold. Judging is based on the wine director/sommelier, pricing, strength of the restaurant’s wine list and selections. Envy has been described as elegant and sophisticated for a special occasion. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ... The Moanalua High School Class of 1976 is celebrating their 50th birthdays at the Main Street Oct. 10 and 11. In case you’re wondering, Saturday is clothing-optional ...
