Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher

WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS star Ashton Kutcher says he once lost $750,000 gambling in Las Vegas:“I used to bet on sports, but I did it as part of a business. I was the front for one of the largest gambling syndicates in the country and I took 10 percent of the winnings, and that was fun. We won $750,000 in three weeks once, then I went to Las Vegas and gambled it all away, so probably not the most sensible thing to do with all the money. But nothing stays in Vegas, only your money and maybe your virginity.“That’s a little too much info, buddy.

THERE’S A NEW Pai Gow poker variation at the Red Rock Casino. Pai Gow Insurance lets you place a side bet that may come in handy during those nasty streaks when you can’t catch a pair. It pays 100-to-1 for a 9 high, 25-to-1 for a 10 high, 15-to-1 for a Jack high, 7-to-1 for a Queen high, 5-to-1 for a King and 3-to-1 for an Ace high Pai Gow. The house edge on this bet is 7.35 percent. Get the complete details on the game at www.wizardofodds.com.

AIR TRAFFIC at McCarran International Airport fell 8.6 percent in July, down to 3.9 million arrivals and departures. This is the airport’s biggest decline since February 2002; it’s also the ninth down month in a row.

ARE HOTEL ROOMS cheaper on Sept. 11? Las Vegas Weekly writer Steve Friess thinks so ... His research shows many of the Strip hotels are the cheapest on that anniversary than any other day of the month. The Mandalay Bay was $90 less, the Wynn Las Vegas $100 off and the Hard Rock was down $190! Rates are set by complex, top-secret computer algorithms, so no one is exactly sure why eight years later this is still a factor ... See his complete story for the details.

M Resort, Spa and Casino lightship

SPEAKING OF PLACES for rent, The New York Times has an article on what people do to get a better hotel room. The story references the $20 bill trick, but goes into great detail about how to complain to get the best the hotel has to offer. It also says women are more likely than men to change their room ... Ahh, that’s why you have to call the bell desk from the room - so us guys no have to haul the luggage from room to room. Get the links for both stories at www.KimosVegas.com.

LOOK UP IN THE SKY… It’s a bird ... It’s a plane ... No, it’s a blimp! The M Resort, Spa and Casino, the $1 Billion Vegas resort, launched its new airship last week. Filled with 170,000 cubic feet of helium, the 178-foot-long by 55-foot-high lightship will cruise 800 to 1,000 feet above the Strip in the atmosphere. With a 2,100-square-foot LED display on its side that can broadcast streaming video, live TV and static ads - (chicken skin) at night, the ads will seem to float in the sky. The M opens in March of 2009.

IN THE QUA BATHS & SPA at Caesars Palace you’ll find an old-fashioned barbershop run by Sal Jeppi, a third-generation barber who does haircuts, trims, straight-edge shaves (in a tuxedo) ... and Qua also offers facials and manicures for metrosexuals.
